Unfortunately, Barbara's definition is so broad, that it's created many differing opinions. So at the end of the day,I think we have to decide if we want to "play" in this game that has few rules and guidelines. For me it's been useful in that I have learned some things. I will continue to give feedback on all entries, but will also point out cases where the original image is of someone else's art I.e photo taken by someone else, paintings,, statutes, etc. Original pictures of buildings, cars, and mannequins (?) are not created as art, but have a primary use in our lives, and any artistic content is of secondary importance. Now back to creating our own Creative Art that we enjoy doing! |

Interesting, Robin.
Could you send me a copy of Barbara's definition. It does not ring a bell for me.gunterhaibach@gmail.com |

Thank you. It's not a "WOW/Hang on my wall" image, but thought it was interesting and wanted to elicit some feedback from the group - thanks for everyone's feedback |

Thanks for your comments. I sense that my original image was perceived as "Creative Lite" by most of our group. As we all know, there are degrees of creativeness, from minimally creative to outrageously creative, all still creative. But each viewer and maker will have their bias, as to what extent the degree of creativeness is most impactful for them.
These discussions are very healthy, and help us grow. |

Welcome to the group. Certainly an interesting, creative image. Showing the original image would be helpful. I really like your changes - well chosen & applied. |

Not to belabour the point, but since someone else did the art, I personally don't think the an alteration by someone else, falls into the definition of creative for our little group. But,hey, that's just me - so take it with a grain of salt! |

Not sure I agree. If you created the art that covered the box, it is art, never mind the medium. You did it for the enjoyment of the viewer, no other reason.
To make it even more complicated, if you then took a picture of it and did some more creative work to it, in my mind it would still fit the PSA Creative definition, as no one else was involved in the final creation.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! Unless …..? |

I agree with Gary (I don't even use Ps Skies, in their Sky Replacement tool - I love the tool, but use my own skies.
I wrestled with the same issue of building, cars, etc that are designed by someone else. I read somewhere, that art is something that is only created for enjoyment of the viewer and maker. Whereas buildings, etc , are primary created for use, and the artistic side is of secondary importance. That works for me. |

Isn't it interesting how many creative definitions there are for "Creative". |

Joan - great subject matter (miss seeing the original you started with). Like your colour choices, although the "sky" is a bit too splotchy for me. If this were my image, I think I would crop quite a bit off the bottom - the bright greenish area tends to attract the eyes, to the detriment of the towers. |

Yolandi - very nice picture, but for me, unfortunately it does not fall in the Creative category. I don't see any Alternate Reality - hope I'm not missing anything. |

Bob, this is a great creative image. Love the colours and you did a good job in making this picture. As an alternate version -see my ideas. I very much like a panoramic layout (3 by 2) - so I cropped some of the top of the sky out. I also thought that making the light sky a bit darker would make it a bit more peaceful. Used the Hue/Saturation adjustment. What do you think? |

Hi Ian
I think the intent of this category to take an original photograph, of a real subject (not an already altered reality picture) and alter it . As we all know, the degree of alteration has a wide range - from a little alteration to an extreme. So for me your Faceless falls in the 'little alteration' category. Unfortunately the original, nor your changed image is not very impactful for me. A very subjective call, obviously.

Joan - you got me to thinking (a good thing!) In order to come closer to Barbaras definition, I've redone my image. It now falls in line with "A camera or other light gathering device could never solely capture such images as they appear in the altered image" |

"A simple added filter……." Is not in Barbara's definition. Check it out in Categories at the top of the page.
Thanks for your more detailed critique and suggestions. |

Joan, first of my sympathies on the passing of your husband - difficult times for all those impacted.
Unfortunately , I find Barbara's definition a bit broad, and consequently not very helpful. I.e. can only use Adobe Photoshop tools?
Maybe I don't have her latest definition? Don't recall that using filters is not allowed. If that is in her definition, you're right - "I'm out of here!"
I'm curious where have you seen a wheatfield that looks like my picture?
I have no problem with you not liking it, as we all have different taste, especially in altered reality images. Thanks for your response. |

Great first crack at a Milky Way picture. I especially like the lights and the dock leading us into the scene. The Milky Way looks great to me as well. In my version, I took a bit more noise out of the sky with Topaz Ai. I also cropped it, to mostly take out the buildings on the right, and also to reinforce the focus on the sky. Finally I flipped it, as I'm mostly a "left-to-right" reader. |

I like this moody, seascape picture. Like the B&W treatment also. My eyes follow the pier into the "beyond", the water - so the composition, very simple, is ideal for this scene. To keep the eyes focused on the pier, I used the Radial Gradient tool to darken the outside a bit. I also darkened the image a wee bit, to add a bit more drama. See what you think. |

Thanks for your comments. My thoughts about the flowers. - I actually wanted them to be even more desaturated and out of focus, since they are not what I want the viewer to focus on, but needed them to be there as the butterfly is focusing on them. But what I intent vs what the viewer sees is often at odds. |

I like this picture quite a lot. Great expression on the face and posture. The revised colours work for me, with the exception of the blown out areas - but even they reinforce the mood of the scene. |

An interesting documentary picture. Technically very well done - like the out of focus background. Attractive, true to life colours. |

Another nice nature shot by Karen Harris. Nice and sharp, and simple and effective composition. Unfortunately, the tree growing out of his head is a bit distracting - but being a nature shot, you get what you're given. |

Interesting picture, but have to say for me, this creative treatment (kaleidoscope?) is not my 'cup of tea'. I do like the choice of colours. The composition is much too busy and complicated for my tired, old eyes. |

A very nice nature and storied image. Technically very well done. I also like the addition of the flying swans. I wonder if it meets the Creative criteria for PSA DD. |

Scary, or what! The chess piece does not work for me. I understand that this is a creative piece, so no problem - but for me it does not blend in with this scene.
Other than that, you continue to show your compositing skill one more time. |

Nicely done, Frans. Tells an interesting story. Would not change a thing. Although do have a question - are you aware if the Pope had any interaction with the indigenous people of Indonesia during this visit? |
