Thanks Ron - there was a bit of a haze, but no fog. Actually, after taking a few shots, I actually went to a winery close by that has wonderful butter tarts in their bakery - and the rest is history! |

If you view this with a Documentary - mindset, yes, you both missed the ear(s), but from a story-telling/artistic mindset, they'e perfect. |

Karen - thanks, I like your version better. I went a bit overboard with "dark moodiness" idea. |

I find that both the added contrast, and sharpening, have resulted in too much graininess for my liking |

I would guess, that 90% of photographers ,including me, in your situation, would have done the exact same thing - taking the time to look at your monitor, when the butterfly is ready to lift off, is too much to ask - my opinion. |

I think it is a matter of taste re: opening the dark zones. If I made it lighter, there really is not much to be seen, and I wanted the viewer to focus on the lake and foreground.
Good catch on the pylon - my final Quality Control process still needs work!
Thanks for your reply |

"EYE" like this picture a lot. You can almost sense the annoyance of the bird being disturbed. You captured this story nicely. Good exposure and nice nature colours.
The eye is obviously the story. Overall it could be a wee bit sharper, but the critical area is nice and sharp.
As far as the ear is concerned - I've found in situations like this, I would crop it down even further (half an ear length), to make it look like you did this on purpose, instead of accidentally.

A very nice image - I like Stuarts crop. Beautiful colours and tones. Like the background as well. Nicely exposed. This is a challenging subject as butterflies don't stop moving for very long. The DOF is so narrow at f6.3 and the 500 lens. Would a sequential burst of 10 or so images have given you an image or two with improved sharpness? In any case, nice, happy shot.

Never let up, Karen - even the animals come to you as they know you will take a great shot. The eyes certainly have it - just gorgeous. I love the composition as well. Colour and exposure add to this image. Although the nose is not as sharp as could be, I think this is relatively an easy fix in post processing. I was going to take a crack at it, but I'm just learning Photoshop so maybe next time - if the learning curve does kill me! |

This is a very pleasing nature shot for me. Beautiful animals in a nice setting. The composition is quite effective - nice and simple, no extra stuff that would take your eye away from the Bisons. I find it reasonably sharp, as seen in the faces. Unfortunately their hair (fur?) is inherently hard to look sharp, because of the texture and colours. Nice image. |

I really like this nature shot. Very effective composition for me - nice and simple to show off this beautiful animal. The stag's pose is very regal. The colours and tones are also quite effective for this subject.
There is some kind of texture (noise?) that is quite distracting for me. Especially noticed in the background, but suspect it's throughout the image.
One suggestion - the light diagonal area near the top, could use some Burning, to darken it a bit - a wee bit distracting for me. But in any case, a great shot. Also congrats on the sharpness - assuming this lens is a big one, and handholding and could be a bit of a challenge - but the high shutter speed sure helped. |

Thanks for your suggestion. It certainly is an idea, but does not work for me for this image. The vignette actually makes the picture smaller, which is the opposite of what I like. Vignettes certainly have their place, but not here -my thoughts. Also the idea of preventing the viewers eyes not to wander over the edge has never made any sense to me - but do use vignettes when there is one specific area that I want to emphasize. Thanks again for taking the time to view and comment. |

A very nice, story-based composite. To me it says, no matter what 2023 brings, we all have choices to make how to deal with it - happy or sad.
As far as the picture is concerned, my only suggestion is to make the size relationship between the rabbit and landscape more realistic - I appreciate that in Altered Reality it should not matter.
A Happy New Year to you and our group members. |

A very creative and interesting image. I like the background a lot. I like the hand as well, but would prefer some more colours. My suggestion would be to experiment with some gradient maps. But not necessarily the colours from the background as the hand needs to contrast the background. Sorry, I would like to do what I suggest, but as I'm new to Photoshop, it's beyond me. |

I love the pictures of the fish - gorgeous, well done. From a composition perspective, I find the placement of the fish a bit off. Building on Steve's comments, why not arrange the fish in a circle, with the heads in the center, to make them look like a flower. Just an idea. |

Another beautiful image. Love the muted colours, and composition. Everything works really well together. Not sure that I would miss the frog - or maybe put a bit more light on him/her. Like Steve's version as well. A beauty! |

Interesting image - not my cup of tea, but looks like an oil painting.
I like the original photograph. A photograph of an oil painting, or using a filter to create one digitally has never appealed to me. However when I see an original oil painting I do appreciate them. I do recognize that I'm a minority in holding these views, but happy that you enjoyed the experience in making this picture. |
