Hi Karen - I've also struggled with the issue you describe. A while ago, a seasoned Photo Art guy shared with me how he deals with this type of thing. "Reading" the picture - read the title, if available, and then see if this helps you relate with what you see. If not, make up your own story that fits what you see - If no story is coming to mind, go on to the next image - No harm, no foul!

Always a treat to see your creative art - this one is no exception. Technically I can't see anything I would change. Maybe a couple to the hot spots on the gown could be darkened just a titch - but no biggie. I do have a bit of an issue with the composition. I find the dark splash of water (upper, near middle) is pulling my eyes away from the model. My favourite aspect of this image are the shapes, textures, tones of the gown - beautiful! |

Gorgeous picture - WOW, does it grab your attention! Very creative and original - love the mood it communicates. As I explored this scene, I felt the need to see more of the building and lighthouse - so I cropped it a bit on the right to allow the focus to be on the buildings. See what you think - it's just another approach to this area scene.

Well worth the wait - beautiful animal, nicely photographed. Especially sharp, not an easy thing to do at 300. Assume the ISO1600 gave you a nice, fast shutter speed!
My only suggestion, not a big deal, but the head being in the centre of the image makes it look a bit static - moving it closer to the Rule Of Third, would avoid this little issue. |

A very nice documentary image - you've certainly accomplished your vision of showing another side of the many sides of this great shooting location. I like the contrasting front and background colours and textures. The shrubs/bushes are certainly plentiful, and zi would suggest cropping a bit off the right to bring more focus on the streams. Also, if you were so inclined, you could add a bit more contrast and saturation to the sky, as it appears a little bland,

I find this picture quite impactful as it's thought-provoking and engaging. The story I see is of an older gentleman who has a story to tell and you have caught him mid-word, as it were. He looks very approachable and would be a great coffee companion. As for the technical aspects of this photo - I would not change a thing - nice and sharp, good exposure and a nice composition.
