Marti - thanks for your comments. The majority prefer a black background, however it's exactly the opposite of what I wanted to achieve. For me, the picture is all about the details of the Poppy conditions - including the little black things (They are definitely part of the plant). A black background for me also takes too much away from the fragile Poppy flower......and that's why there is vanilla and chocolate ice cream! Thanks again.

Agree 100% - as I was working on this picture, I wanted to hopefully end up with something that was 'light and airy', but I think I can still end up with this look by adding a bit of clarity - thanks for your suggestion |

An interesting documentary image - certainly tells a story. I'm with the animal rights group on this one! You've certainly captured the essence of this event. Would prefer to see more of the horses and riders, but the spray hides a lot of them. Curious: Why B&W?

Thanks, Grace. I agree about the additional bud. To be honest with you, I just wanted this shot taken quickly, as some petals came off by just moving the bottle slightly - ooooh the pressure!!!! I did toy with the background - but did not want anything to interfere with the fragile petals and the colours, and also wanted an overall, "airy" feel.

Very nicely shot flower picture. Your DOF calculation is very effective - sharp front petals and the rest out of focus works very well. The colours are also very nicely captured. Although the left, front petals are very close to the border, it's not a big issue, however I would suggest cropping about 10% off the right, for a more balanced composition.

What a terrific, architectural subject. You captured it very nicely - sharp, good composition, and good exposure. I think adding the woman to the scene certainly adds scale, however for my taste, I would prefer her not be so close to the front, and also the orange top tends to draw the eyes too much. You're lucky to have this building close by, as I'm sure that there are many more shooting opportunities available.

Very nice nature image. The bird is nice and sharp, showing plenty of detail in the feathers. The background is also very suitable for this subject. My only suggestion - would be tempted to darken the rocks just a bit. |

Very nice colours, and the picture is nice and sharp. The dark shadows at middle, left are a bit disconcerting and would be more interesting if they were lightened a bit. I really like that you included the person in the front, right foreground - it balances the image nicely. I'm not sure if you could have taken this picture a bit more from the left side - that would give more definition & detail of the colourful flags?, as well as show more of the mountain range, top, right. In any case, I would also suggest cropping 10-15% off the foreground
