I think you captured the spirit of Richter and brought it to a subject we all can relate to. I really like the soft light and the simplicity of the composition. My eye was distracted by the three vestiges of the railing, baseboard, and lock, so just for fun I took the photo into Photoshop and cloned them out. |

What a beautiful image! I might have left a bit more of the legs in the crop so it was clear that both birds are standing, but I like it the way you did it. I definitely agree with all the other comments. Glad the judges saw it our way. |

I really like your image. By using a shorter time you captured just a portion of each star's trail. I like that so much better than the usual long-long-exposure photo that shows the trails as complete bright-white circles. You also did a great job of bringing out the foreground. The light in the lower left above the foreground makes it look like you might have been near a populated area. |

Thanks Bollin -- and thanks to everyone -- for me, playing with a photo is at least as much fun as taking it in the first place :) |

I also like the pole but not the wire, and decided the wire didn't have to be in my world. See the result in my reply to Jennie below who had much the same idea. |

As you and Bollin and Ruth point out, the pole really does belong in the photo. So I went back into Photoshop and created a version that included the pole but not the wire. I especially like the way the pole and surroundings balance the photo. Thanks to you all for the insights. |

I guess I could clone it out. It certainly seems to steal the show. But the whole thing I wanted to convey was to show all the lines (silver wires, black wires, poles, silos, clouds, fences, etc). So while it would make a better photograph, I think I might lose a part of the story. On the other hand, I decided to see what I would happen if I got rid of the dark wire (and a couple of other intrusive items), and I think I really like the result. What do you folks think? |
