The only thing I would add to the comments above would be to highlight the man and his dog to bring the eye to them. I took it into Photoshop and tried to accomplish this with the gradient tool. My skills are getting rusty, but the resulting image below gives the idea. |

Here's a case where I would really like to have the color version available to compare and to perhaps be able to appreciate what the process was aiming to achieve. As it is, it's an interesting contrast of textures: the rough wall, candlestick and table, and the smooth shiny chess figures and board. I do like Brian's treatment of distressing the edges. |

I love that you removed the background foliage, leaving just the branch the bird is perched on, as well as further blurring the already-soft background so the bird is the true focus of attention. I also like the shadow of the bird's bill which confirms the direction of the light. |

Reminds me of the old song "Stairway to the Stars" -- I get the feeling you could just start up those stairs and keep on going up the Lighthouse tower and emerge at the top and reach the stars. Just for fun, to mimic the feeling of actually reaching for the stars, I converted it into black and white. |

As everyone has said, this is a lovely scene. What stands out to me is the reflection of the bridge and the two trees behind it, which allows one to see a different perspective of the elements of the picture. |

Like Ruth I was drawn to the color image at first. Then I noticed that the intensity of the bird's eyes was really accentuated in the black and white version. As for what the bird has in it's left claw, I enlarged and inspected the fish-and-bird-in-flight picture, and concluded that it looks like the bird has begun to make a meal of the fish. By the way, the really enlarged close-up of bird with fish is really fun. I love the looks on their faces. |
