I agree with all the comments, especially the foreboding feel that the color lends to it. Following Eric's suggestion to add a small gray stroke, I took it into Photoshop and found, when I added a gray stroke, the color didn't even come close to blending with the color of the tones in the photo. So I played around with the stroke function until I found the color-picker and used the eyedropper to pick up a color from the photo. Then to illustrate it I added an black layer behind the photo so the stroke would be visible. I agree it definitely helps define the scene. What a great little bird! I would like to lose the rectangular branch on the lower left which attracts my eye. I tried just cropping it out, but that placed the bird pretty much in the center. So I continued cropping to return the bird to the "thirds" position. See what you think. |

I do like the Eric's edits, but would like to see a little more toning, perhaps with curves, to bring the brightness of the eyes up and the brightness of the tail down a just a bit to make the eyes draw focus. |

Great image. I do agree with the suggestions to increase the contrast a bit. |

Lovely image and story. Your crop and the lighting, especially the shadow on the foreground tree lead the eye right to the subject. |

Great image in all respects. I agree with Eric that a stroke would help focus our attention on the image. There is a way to do this in Photoshop, but I did a quick illustration by just pasting a shape in Preview on my Apple computer. |

That's a great suggestion. It was a very bright day and I never remember to use a vignette to keep the eye on the subject. |
