The areas around the masts are the result of my lack of skill and patience at masking out around the masts. I was mostly trying to illustrate the contrast enhancement in the subject areas, and didn't take the time to do the finer points in masking out the sky. But for presentation I would have to do a more thorough job. |

I definitely like the monochrome version. I took it back into Photoshop and enhanced the contrast on everything except the sky to bring those subject areas closer to having "true black" and "true white" (my technique isn't good enough around the masts, but gives the idea) |

I like the long view and the lines of the sound and the marshes converging in the distance. I felt the horizon was too low and that the upper portion of the sky with it's streaks of white clouds in the upper left were distracting me from the subject. I cropped, keeping the same aspect ratio, to get a different perspective. See what you think. |

I do find presenting portraits against a black background to be stunning, especially when the focus is spot-on as this one is. But here I get the feeling that the subject is floating in space. I think I would like to see the photo with just the very faintest hint of the shoulders, but that's a personal preference. The more I look at this one, the more I can appreciate the technique. |

I like the framing and focus in this photo. For me the sky competes with the rigging of the ship. I also feel like the choice of sky, while appropriately reflected in the water, makes the overall effect bit too vibrantly blue, and overshadows the whites of the masts and deck features. |

The beautiful tulips are nicely focused and framed. I agree that a solid background would enhance the effect. Given that you photographed them where they were in the room, I think the only problem with the background is the fact that it is noticeable where the background was cloned in on the upper right and lower left. |

I think you did a great job of capturing the color of the bluebonnet. I'm not a fan of isolating a flower against a black background and I agree that the out of focus portion seems odd in that context. It does seem to me to give the impression that the flower is being held "off-stage" by someone, so that may justify it. I like the sharpness in the rest of the flower.
