I like the way you feature the one tall tree, and the contrast with the deep blue sky makes the trees stand out. I think part of the problem with the focus might be that the file was very small (172 MB) and so when it is displayed on the website, it looks like the focus is off. Don't know for sure what to suggest. Did you crop from a bigger scene? Anyone have any ideas? |

Nice capture of the bird coming right towards you. I like Eric's suggestions. At first I thought it would be more natural to put in a natural background in place of the buildings, but then I realized that they are exactly what makes this photo so interesting: how often does one see a pelican flying towards one from a more-or-less industrial area. |

I really like the fall colors in this scene, as well as the reflection of the rocks and the faint colors of the leaves in the canal. I cropped mercilessly to focus just on those two features. Not better so much as another way of looking at it. |

I have to smile at how much the ice formations do look like a group of dancing geese who got stuck when the ice froze them. I think the bright (but not blown-out) whites of the ice make the ice structures clearly the star of the show, but it would probably enhance the effect to blur the background a bit to help separate them from it. |

Thanks everybody! In the long run, you are all correct -- I love featuring a small, sometimes obscure, feature of a scene without realizing that the viewer may not be able to even find what I thought was so interesting. In the end I liked the ideas of rotating and cropping, so I played with it a bit. I finally decided a slight angle also added to the focus on the baby pepper. What do you think? |
