As you presented it, this photo gives a sense of what it would be like to be in that snow well looking out. I think cropping might make a "better" photo, putting the focus on the opening and the sun, but at the expense of losing a bit of the story aspect. As so often is the case, there's more than one photo in a picture we have taken. |

Gorgeous colors! I do agree with cropping up to remove some of the sparse reeds from the foreground. As for cropping in from the left, I didn't want to lose the edge of the sunset nor the curve of the finger of land with the reeds. Here's what I came up with. |

I love the colors and the great idea to reflect them. It would be interesting to see the result with Eric's suggestion. Given that you created the photo with software to make the reflection, I'd guess you would have to start with the original photo and remove the limbs on top left and right first and then re-create the reflection. Might be interesting to compare the result. |

I'm glad to see your original. You did an amazing job of bringing the scene out of the shadows. I have to agree with you about introducing lean into the photo. The difference between your original and the photo you posted is very slight in any case, perhaps because of the location from which you took the picture. I like your final version because that's how the human eye presents the scene to the human brain.

Thanks for the comments. I certainly agree that the white band on the right needs to go. I always ask myself "Why didn't I notice that?" Thanks for pointing it out. |
