I think I don't use a vignette often enough, and I can really see where it would improve this photo. It would soften the bright edges of the frame where it feels like I'm "falling off a cliff," as well as bridging the sharp red/green contrast, and put the focus right where it should be on the flower. Had trouble resurrecting how to do a vignette in Photoshop and finally resorted to Lightroom. How do you do it? Here's what I came up with. |

I like everything about this photo. The only thing I would change, if you were able, would be to show a little more to the right of the biggest flower. That way the frame would be able to surround the flower rather than going over it. For me the color of the frame is just right - it picks up tones from the scene rather than introducing a competing element. |

Part of me wants to say the background is too light and too busy. But because the trees are so lacy, and the colors of the bridge building and the Hummer are so strong, it really works for me. Although I cannot explain the two shafts of light on the inside walls of the bridge, they certainly keep that area from being a deep dark hole. |

I'm always amazed how each of the Greek islands seems to have its own character. I've only been to Santorini, but there the main feature is the blue domes and whitewashed buildings. Here in Symi there is not a single blue dome, and the buildings are a natural sand color. I especially like the zigzag lines of the harbor, the road, and the white wall separating the upper city from the middle area. |

I definitely agree with Eric's crop. I kept trying to figure out what the objects in the water were, and this way the focus is clearly on the bridge and the sky. I think the fact that the bridge nearly disappears into the distance helps to put the focus on the sky and clouds. And I really like the colors. |

Having lived through many hurricanes, I can tell you that you've created an image that strikes terror in my heart at the same time I admire its beauty. I particularly like the way the flower turns into such a striking replica of a storm image. The eye definitely creates that feeling you get when you are in the eye of a storm when everything is still, but you know it's all still swirling around you. It was a good idea to leave the eye untouched -- one can see right up to the stars that are visible while the eye passes over. Very creative work! |
