I've never seen those mountains from the air. Thanks goodness for cell phones so you can show them to us. I really like the effect of the haze enhancing the sense of distance. And Marti is right about the city giving scale -- and thanks for pointing it out Marti, I hadn't even noticed it.

Inspired fun: coming up with your initials like that. It does resemble a reflection, but my guess is that it's a composite given that you used it as an example in a class. I really like the way you have the sizes just right for the arches to encompass the building and have them lined up right with the corners and the "S" almost centered. This creative stuff could is really neat. |

Hmmm! I posted a comment last week and now it's gone!! Hopefully I can recreate it. I really like the way you got soft focus on everything but the child's face and hair even to the finest hairs. And I especially like the way the lighting makes it look like an orange glow from inside the pumpkin is lighting up the child's face. |

I've also found this kind of capture to be challenging. I think all of the major monuments I've seen in Europe and Greece have been beautifully lighted for showing them off at night, but it really creates a challenge for a photographer. Because it's clear this was taken at night, I don't at all mind that the sky is rather plain, nor even that it is somewhat grainy. That helps to give it a sort of pointillistic painterly look. Just to see how it might be presented differently I took it into Photoshop, cropped from left, right, and top, and then brought the light down just a touch. The result is in the thumbnail. |

Wow that takes me back. We had a wringer for the wash when I was a kid. I am really impressed with the result of the light painting technique. And I especially like that all the tones blend to create an almost-monochromatic effect, and the intensity of the color. |

I like a lot about the photo. I think it help to put the focus on your son's expression to crop out unnecessary information (the towel on the wall) and straighten the lines of the wallpaper and mirror. I took it into Photoshop and used Transform>Distort on a background copy layer. Then cropped in from the left and down slightly from the top just to your mom's head so all the focus is on the action. I think it's just fine that she is not in sharp focus and only partially shown because both look definitely intentional. |

I think the flowers are lovely, and I don't mind the shadows because it's clear they were either photographed in bright daylight or with flash. I do think the light caused the red to be almost overexposed, washing out the detail in the petals. I took it into Photoshop and adjusted the exposure with a curves layer in the thumbnail. |

I'm really impressed with how well you represented the spirit of the 9/11 Heroes Run. As such it represents all our fallen heroes, and I like that you focused on the motto while showing just enough of the written words to convey how Manion embodied the intent to "serve to the point of sacrifice" of all those who daily put themselves at risk for the benefit of others. |
