For me the second photo doesn't have the dreamy feel of the first one. Plus the paddler seems awkward. The fact that the paddle is behind in the first photo gives me the feeling of the board peacefully drifting along at the end of the previous stroke. |

I like your interpretation and treatment of the building. I find that the building almost gets lost against the pale sky. Maybe emphasizing the outlines would help. Or perhaps a London-fog grey sky. |

I really like this presentation of the seed head. I would almost think you had used focus stacking to get everything in such excellent focus. As I recall, this is quite large to be able to get so much in focus at f/5. Very nice. |

I like the complementary colors of red, orange, and yellow, and especially the way they contrast with the green of the foliage. The water droplets add extra depth to the image. |

I like the idea of a more square crop. I think I heard somewhere (or maybe I made it up) that there should be about twice as much space on one side as the other of the subject. That didn't turn out quite square, but I think it does help the rose to really command the space as the center of attention. |

Thanks for the compliment. I also like both, and I agree, I could correct the original and keep the lovely curves. |

Good observation. I was so focused on the center cone of the flower and the frog, and the contrast of color of the frog with the pink of the petals, that I totally forgot to think about trying to correct the overexposure. The light and the limits of the cell phone native camera were not in my favor, and it seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Plus he wasn't hanging around very long. Instead of a vignette, I tried an additional crop, and filled in some color on the blown-out petals. I think I cropped a bit close to the frog's feet and could correct that if I were to use this for a competition. I definitely think your suggestion leads in the right direction. |
