Looking at all three versions, I have to say they are all wonderful, but they are very different. It's almost hard to believe they are the same moment in time. I think the "correct" one would be the one that represents to the photographer the scene as the he felt and saw it at the moment it was photographed. |

I think it's a beautiful photo. Sometimes cell phone photos don't scale up as well as others, especially when there is such a great difference in the tones like here between the dark blue sky and the sunset. I think there comes a time when we can throw all the "proper" photography talk out the window and just enjoy the scene that has been captured! |

Great job! Everything look perfect to me at first. Then I noticed that some of the reflection overlapped the actual flower and that the line through the reflection was not straight. With my rusty science and art background I couldn't figure it out at first, so I drew some lines. In the thumbnail the blue line is parallel with the frame of the photo, and doesn't go through the plane of the reflection. So I drew the red line which goes through two points of the reflection (right and center) but not the third (flower petal). Gradually it dawned on me that the petals were farther from the intersection of the felt and acrylic. So much for my confusion. But it also led me to wonder about other outcomes if the angle had been even more severe: what kind of blending of image and reflection would you get? If you still have the setup, it might be fun to try. |

Thanks for the comments. It took third place, which really surprised me. We had a tie for first, so there was an extra place and by some ways of judging it was actually fourth, but who's counting :) |

Vince, you beat me to the punch here. I totally agree with focusing on the central characters. I'm not sure I would add the vignette, but I do understand why you chose it. But I think Marla that you got a wonderful story with good color and interest. |

I like the composition. I really like the foreground, and the contrast of the houses on the right gives me a sense of the passage of time. The light in the window on the right does tell me that you were out just after sunset in the "blue hour" and that accounts for the overall blue tone of the photo. Without the explanation of the time of capture, I'm not sure that the blue makes sense, so I tried removing the evidence of time of day. That entailed changing the color to a more natural daytime hue, and removing the light from the window and its reflection in the water. Not necessarily better, but it does remove a question about why the photo is so blue when I first saw it. See what you think in the thumbnail. |
