Jai - As you know I get hungry ever time I view one of your images. The color, composition and balance in this image are all very well done. F9 makes for a shallow depth of field in this case using your macro lens. What is the distance to subject? The right edge of the first slice of meat as well as the left edge of the mushrooms are a bit soft. Is that intentional?
The rare color of the meat compliments the tomatoes. The mushrooms compliment the breading around the meat as well as the gravy. The garnish creates a visual contrast and a border keeping my eye in the frame. The eggs occupy what otherwise would be negative space. The position of the spoon is good. I like the fact that the gravy has just begun to spill over the edge of the meat and you catch the drip of the gravy off the spoon. I have a hard time finding improvement. Did you try this shot including the finger tips of the person holding the spoon? I wonder if that might convey a "personal touch". It would likely be a bit of a distraction though... |

I love the color. I love the layers and I love the lines. You have vertical as well as horizontal layers. The motion in the waves in the back ground move from left to right while the kayaks pull my eye from right to left. The kayaks pointing left in the frame create "visual tension" (thats good in my book) The darkest kayak gets lost a bit but not severe. Too bad it wasn't a light blue.... Very nice image. |

Great focus and balance. To me this image is all about the center line, starting with her shoes, legs hands, the stick and the center line of her face. While it isn't significant the slightly offset angle of her position in the frame makes me a bit uncomfortable.
You're right the lighting and shading on this image is very good. It creates focus on her face but provides even visibility of her entire body so that the view sees the dainty playfulness of a six year old "meadow fairy". :-)

This is good photo journalism. It conveys drama, action and tells the story of the devastating damage. Composition is good. All of the components draw my eye upward. The front end loader and worker are framed well in the triangle of trees leaning inward. The downed branches at the bottom of the frame create a strong border. As a safety officer at work I cringe watching a guy with a chain saw in a loader bucket though. He is breaking a ton of OSHA rules... :-) |

This is a very good sport photo. Your ability to pan holding on the front cyclist but keeping the others in frame is really good. At f18 there is depth of field to relay environment but the panning removes the clutter that might otherwise detract from your main subject.. Composition is good. Three aspects to the recognizable subjects with a single primary. Even the lines of the pavement / striping as well as the line of the crowd along the curb in the background all carry my eye to the primary subject, while the white line at the base creates a foundational border. Pretty cool Kieu Hanh. |
