You have done an excellent job in finding so much green in the Badlands. When I have been (several times) it is usually just brown desert, which in itself offers its own photo possibilities. I think Stephen's suggestion of concentrating on the three flowers on the right to be worth keeping in mind in future situations.
Thanks for sharing. The sun in the background provides a very interesting background and nice back lighting on the flowers. |

Craig's suggestion of rendering this in monochrome is very good. I don't think you need more DOF. The slight out of focus of the islands in the background I think lend to the mysterious atmosphere of the photo.
My wife and I are planning a trip to the Oregon coast June of next year. If you can suggest references for us in planning this trip, it would be appreciated. alankiecker@charter.net

I'm not sure what I would suggest on improving this photo - I like it the way it is. I particularly like how the birds are positioned. One technique I have been using lately is with the relatively new mask feature of Lightroom I make a selection of the background and darken it (may take a bit of work to make the mask the way you want it). This puts a nice emphasis on the primary image making it stand out. |

Like everyone else ... I like this image!! It is a great shot. I can understand the difficulty in getting a sharp photo. Typically when photographing a waterfall I use a long shutter speed to get silky smooth water, but I don't think that would give the excitement that you were looking for. If anything an even shorter shutter speed may help getting a sharp photo. Great photo! Thanks for sharing! |

As to sharpness, you could be correct. Bird photography is new genre for me. I need to work on focus. Significant processing with the mask feature of Lightroom was done to bring out what detail I could in the underside of the bird. I have included the original image. |

This is what I was photographing before I noticed the vulture and changed lenses. |
