Same here. I was using a D810 with 36MP. I thought why would anyone need any more. Then I upgraded to the mirrorless Z7ii with 45MP. This has turned out to be quite useful. I can put this in DX mode and still have 19MP images. I can do a severe crop and still have more that sufficient pixels (1920x1080) to submit a digital image to a club salon. |

What has amazed me as I get more and more into macro/close-up photography is the incredible detail that the camera is able to pick up that your eye does not see.
I have been using Helicon Remote for some time and only relatively recently have acquired a camera that supports focus bracketing. With Helicon Remote controlling your camera you set the start and end points and it determines the number of exposures to take based on your f-stop and step size. I know of no cameras that do this. You have to guess at how many exposures to take.
When taking your exposures my advice is to start closer to the camera than you think (nearest part of subject will be out of focus) and end after the farthest part of the subject. This way you can be sure to have everything you need. You can always throw away what you don't need. |

This is an interesting photo. The color contrast works well. I also think it would work as a monochrome also. This is a simple image, with nothing to distract the eye away from the subject. The branch (?), although curved, makes a nice leading line to the subject. I like this image, thanks for sharing. |

One of my biggest problems ... forgetting to change settings from the previous subject. |

What if you cropped in tighter so that the yellow flowers occupy the entire image? Just a thought. |

I very much like this image. I love how the black mannequins disappear into the black background really putting the emphasis on the dresses. Well done! |

This is an interesting image forcing one to study it and get more drawn into the scene. B&W presentation works very well! Thanks for sharing. |

What bothers me most about this photo is that the kayaker is placed dead center in the image. I would crop placing her in the left of the image giving her room to move. In the attached image I also tweaked the curve adding more contrast. |

This image shows the artifacts removed with judicious use of the clone stamp in Photoshop. |

Capturing images manually can be a bit of a drag, but if you use something like Helicon Remote to control the camera, or your camera has focus stacking ("bracketing"?) built in, then capturing the images is not a problem. With in camera bracketing you do need to do some guessing as to step size and how many images to take. With Helicon Remote you specify the start and end of the stack and it will determine the number of images.
I experimented with both Photoshop and Helicon Focus to merge the images together. I find that generally HF does a better job, but you still need to be prepared to fix "artifacts" with Photoshop. For example this image shows the artifacts after processing with HF. |
