This is an interesting photo, although it did take me a moment to realize that there was a reflection involved. I too have used acrylic and velvet. Supposedly black velvet is supposed to be very absorbent of light and not reflect, I too have battled the little white spots. I think the light is reflecting off the fibers in the cloth itself. I agree with Josh that increasing the contrast a tad by pushing the whites a bit higher would be a good idea. |

I really like this image! You have captured Potter and how pensive she is. The additional processing is done well and does put more emphasis on the subject. Well done! |

Birds in flight (BIF) are a very difficult subject! I myself am just getting into this genre of photography. I have found many articles and videos on the internet. What advice I have gleaned is to shoot with a wide open lens and fast shutter speeds (1/2000 sec or better). This very likely will mean also using a very high ISO. I try to limit myself to 3200, but I am not surprised to find that I need to go to 6400 to get the shutter speeds needed. Auto-ISO works well in this situation. I use Topaz DeNoiseAI to address the resultant high noise in my images.
Continuous auto-focus is mandatory and shoot in burst mode so that you have many choices. You will delete most of them.
The hardest thing that I find is actually following the bird, i.e. keeping it in your frame. As they say, practice makes perfect. I need lots more practice.
I love your composition, how the bird is coming toward you! |

I don't know what f-stop you used, but since the background is fairly sharp the aperture was quite small yielding a large DOF. A wider aperture would have blurred the background and put more emphasis on the subject. The critical focus are the eyes, they must be tack sharp. I keep having this drilled in to me on my wildlife photos.
Yes, the trees growing out of the subjects head are definitely a distraction. |

Very impressive! This is great action shot! I like the idea of toning down the background to put emphasis on the subject but maybe not quite so much as you did. A bit of detail in the background will give the photo some context. |

Here is an updated version of the photo now that I am back home and on my desktop PC. Additional tweaks were added in Lightroom, the background was darkened to make the pump handle stand out more, Photoshop was used to get rid of a prominent distraction in the background just above the handle, and it was run through DeNoiseAI. |

You are correct. It should be deleted from this month. It looks like things got ahead of me and I failed to submit, or did I submit the same image twice? Currently out of town and do not have access to my photos, so I can not supply a new image. |
