As mentioned earlier, I am building a light tent. Once I am able, I will try doing this again with a diffused light source, but I think it is the harsh lighting that brings out the texture.
When you are ready to give focus stacking a try, contact me directly. I will be glad to share some of what I have learned. |

Thanks Graham! The detail that can be captured is what has intrigued me so much with macro/close-up photography! |

Thanks David! I am in the process of building myself a "light tent" out of PVC pipe. So far it is just a framework for supporting my black background, next will be adding diffusion panels on the sides. I appreciate your suggestions. |

It is an interesting image, and like David, I had to a double take as I too when it first appeared on my screen thought it to be the Eiffel Tower. Some post processing could help this image a lot. |

I agree. The center one is what caught me eye also! |

Every time I see a ballerina on her toes I cringe. I like how you focused on a detail of the dancer. I like how the subject stands out from the background but I don't see anything supporting her. It is like she is suspended in air from above. A hint of floor would be nice, otherwise it is very well done. |

I like this photo. The flower stands out in sharp contrast to the background. The background is dark and very subdued. You see just enough of the stem and leaves to give a bit of context and show that the flower isn't just hanging in dark space but is supported by the stem. The petal in front is just a tad soft. Increasing the ISO so that you could use a smaller aperture would have helped. I have seen some incredible photos from the D850 at high ISOs so don't hesitate to do so. Nicely done! |

This was an interesting project and I can see that it would be quite challenging as you described. As this was an exercise in using a slow shutter speed, I am curious as to what shutter speed you actually used? I do wish the dreidel (never heard this term before) in the center was sharper, but to accomplish that would require a faster shutter speed which would be contrary to the exercise. |
