Fred, I like the second image better. The composition is improved, it concentrates the viewer on the reflection which is wonderful!
Have you ever tried HDR, merging images taken at different exposures? Or used a graduated ND when taking the photo? |

I have done this a couple of different times, collecting images that could find their way into a camera club presentation on photographing waterfalls. In general I find that in the 1/10 - 1/2 sec shutter speed gives me the smoothing effect that I like. Faster and it has too much detail, slower doesn't really add much and too slow (>1 sec) is just too "milky". |

I really like this image! It took me a bit to figure out what it was, you told me it was tulip, but tulips stand straight up.. ah ha, the maker rotated this! You gave me a different perspective. I agree with the rain drops catching the eye, and the single red line drawing us to the intersection of red lines. Well done!
I am curious ... what did you use as background to get the uniform black color? |

I very much enjoy city skylines especially at night. Thankyou for sharing this with us! With the Burj Khalifa in the very center of the photo, it makes the photo seem very centered. I think if it were moved off the center by cropping in from either the left or right, the composition would be improved. |

Interesting image. I have always been instructed that a monochrome image should have a full range of brightness from black to white. Although I don't necessarily believe all the "rules", I agree with Fred and David that this image is a bit flat and as Fred has shown, can be improved by increasing the contrast. Toning down the snow in the upper left provides greater contrast and does bring out the subject. |
