I basically like the high key photo, except it might just a tad too "high". I'd prefer a bit more detail of the subject.
Excellent composition. |

I am beginning to get the impression that we are all taking this opportunity to experiment with our photography :-)
The shadows do not bother me - they add a natural look to the photo.
Wonderful colors! |

When I was reading your description and you said you had included the original, I took a look. WOW! I could not believe that boring photo turned into something that so grabbed my attention. Excellent work! Have a good time experimenting with other photos. |

Graham - I can't add a thing to what already has been said. Very nice! |

Very nice concept. And I agree with Graham … make some greeting cards :-)
As to out of focus … you might want to look into the focus stacking technique. This is what I have been experimenting with.
As to the colors … I like bold bright colors, so the seeds look just fine to me :-)_ |

At the time I took the photos, the plants were about six inches tall. Camera was on a bean bag maybe little over a foot from the plants.
This was the first time I had tried doing anything like this but it got me started experimenting. I set up a little macro studio using xenon lights from my garage as a light source. Subjects were small things I found around the house. I connected my tablet to the camera and tried various software packages to control the camera (digicamcontrol, Helicon Remote) and to process the image stacks (Helicon Focus, Photoshop, Zerene Stacker). Thanks to Shiv Verma for a PSA webinar on macro photography. |

Larry - Thank you for the long response! You gave me much to consider. And yes, one of my problems is being excited about the subject and forgetting the background. This is definitely something that I have to work on :-) |

How do I go about doing that? Stand up some sort of backdrop behind the plant? |
