Ha Ha … you saw past me :-) Yes, I have photographed this lighthouse many times and ships taking on a load of ore at the docks, but never have I seen a ship come into the harbor before! :-) |

Interesting image! The image looks kind of "busy". Its not the placement of the elements in the image, i.e. the telephone and the electrical boxes - they seem to balance each other. I think it is the overall texture that I am struggling with. |

This is a great image! I love how the butterfly and the flower pop out at us from the dark background. The catctus on the left is a bit "hot". I'd bring it down a tad. |

With just a bit of tinkering in Lightroom the colors can be brought out making this image really "pop". What I did: exposure -.12, contrast +33, highlights -100, shadows +100, whites +21, blacks -48, clarity +52, dehaze +40, vibrance +31.
Regarding the highlights and shadows choices … this is pretty much what I do to all my images. I could almost make it a preset on import. This was a recommendation from a judge at one of my clubs salons. It does make for a rather flat image, but after adjusting the other sliders the contrast comes back. If I do want more contrast then I will adjiust the contrast slider. Adding in the clarity and especially dehaze, I will usually have all the contrast and brilliance of the colors that I want. I almost never need to increase the saturation. |

Great image of your niece. The B&W rendering works well. The cropping is well done. It gives the subject a place to go. The highlight on her hair is perfect! The only nit I can pick is the light out of focus area behind her head. I wish this were not there; her head would stand out more. I would enter it and see how it does. Well done. |
