We had a presentation earlier this year on macro photography and focus stacking was discussed. I am not sure if this link will work for you, but give it a try.

I love the detail that you have shown. You didn't mention focus stacking (a method I have only recently experimented with - the results can be pretty impressive) so I assume that technique was not used, but with so much of the flower being as sharp as it is, it certainly looks like you may have used this technique. Well done!! |

Interesting photo. It certainly makes us think about how much we have, and how little some others in the world don't have.
I have to agree with Tom and Cora. This photo has some composition issues that make it difficult for it to really say what you are trying to say. |

"Blah" skies make it extremely difficult to make an interesting photo. After working with them so often, both color and B&W, I actually think they are worse with B&W than with color.
I have been working with many photos recently taken in Ireland - it rains a lot in Ireland so I had a lot of uninteresting "blah" skies. I worked with the skies and did my best to get some sort of features in the sky. I used the gradient filter or brush then reduced exposure of the sky. I then worked with highlights, shadows, etc. In general this seemed to work; I was able to retrieve some detail in the skies. I hope not too much, i.e. I hope the skies aren't too stormy looking. When I do have a sky that is completely overcast and has no detail at all, if I can't elliminate the sky, I try to minimize the amount of sky in the photo.
With that said, lets look at your photo. As Tom said, the monochrome treatment did bring out the detail in the structure and grain of the wood. It is a rather interesting detail of the chapel. You can't eliminate the sky in this photo, but have you considered going all the way to a silhouette? |
