I tried cropping your image a bit and was unable to find anything that I liked better than what you have already done. I find this a most intriquing photo; I keep coming back to it.
And have a great trip. We are looking forward to seeing photos from this trip! |

I was interested in seeing what I could do without using HDR techniques, so I used the above image and processed it normally with LR. In order to lighten the lower part of the image I used the gradient filter and significantly reduced the exposure. This would be similar to using a graduated ND filter when taking the photo in the first place (waiting for one to be shipped). |

Here is one of the several images that was used to create this HDR image. Exposures ranged from 1/2 sec to 1/125 sec at 1 stop intervals. All exposures at f16, ISO 400.

Here is a cropped version of the image. What I was trying to with HDR was to keep the detail in the snow that we see in the foreground. By cropping we lose this detail. What do you think? |

If not taking a tripod, try a monopod. You might be able to take something like that into a theater environment. |

This is an excellent capture of race action. Very well done!
I have done a fair amount of auto race photography myself (F1 at Indianapolis, ALMS at Elkhart Lake) and you have done well capturing the competitive action. Too often a too fast shutter speed is used and the car(s) just look like they are parked on the track. You need to show blurred wheels, dust being thrown up. You have done this very well.
Why it has done poorly in competition? Some folks just do not find auto racing interesting. The current topic in my club is "motion". I think this would do very well; I wish it were mine! |

I am currently out of town visiting grandkids and do not have access to my images. I will supply a "before" shot upon my return. |

I figure that you cropped the lower portion to remove distracting heads :-) I keep being drawn to the dancer's face and makeup. I wonder if cropping to this (more like a portrait) would work. Have you tried this?
Another suggestion ... too bad you can't go back and try it though ... is to use a real slow shutter speed. The result should be a blur of color as the dancer moves. You still have the suggestion of a dancer, but the dress as she moves will be blurred creating the sense of motion.

Wonderful colors and style of the outfit certainly convey the regions you traveled. Sounds like wonderful trip! I think a full view would better convey the message of movement, something that would better show the motion and movement that the dancer was experiencing. |

Doors can be very interesting subjects. I do like this, but I find the sign distracting from the main subject. I'd prefer it not be there (sorry). I think you did a good job with the composition. The door is off center, creating a more dynamic look to your photo. And I like the suggestion of an interesting wall perhaps on the right side of the image. Looks like some trash at the bottom of the door. On your next visit you might remove this. |
