Thanks, Judy. I learned to look behind me when I got engrossed in birding/bird photography. It's also a benefit to my street and macro shooting - everything! |

Thanks, Karen. My first pass at the image I cropped the sky. But, when I looked at the image after playing with it a bit, I realized there was sky peeking through the tops of the trees, so I went back to keeping that corner. Chocolate and vanilla, again! |

Thanks, Stu. Yes, the image could be lightened a bit. I chose not to do that because I want it to present the scene as very close to fall darkness. |

Thanks, Tim. I straightened the image horizontally (using the two windows). |

I like the double flip and the tonal range. This would do well in my Monochrome group. Very nice execution of a good idea. |

I like the muted colors - shades of Claude Monet's "Water Lilies". I'm for keeping the blues. |

A nice composition, a few good colors, some nice lines and textures, tack sharp - my definition of minimalism. Great shot. |

I've got to agree with all of the previous comments - good colors, textures, tonal range, etc. But I don't really know what I'm looking at in terms of composition - am I looking at an incline? I haven't been there and the images I recall seeing were all flat land. |

I like the motion, the dirt flying out from under the rear wheel, the dust, the colors. I like how Karen always seems to find the little nit the rest of us miss. I agree with Bob in wondering why your shutter is lower than 1/1000. I know I'd be going back to Somerset Speedway to try again. |

Thanks, Trevor. I've been drawn to minimalist images since I first picked up a camera, about 60 years ago. I don't go looking for them, I happen upon them. I think it's the about uncluttered, clean lines and/or colors. |

Thank you, Haru. Sometimes you just get lucky and walk into a scene that fits your eye. |

Arne's comment made me think of this: "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." Robert Capa.
I, too, think the crop is better. |

Congratulations on the 1x.com acceptance.
I feel inadequate to comment on this image as 1) I would not have seen it as candidate for conversion to monochrome and 2) i would not have known how to process the image to come close to the results you have attained. I'm curious about the amount of time you expended to arrive at the image you've shared with us? |

Thanks, Stu. I couldn't convince myself to crop the foreground. Looking at it now, I ask myself the question "What does it add to the image?", and the answer is NOTHING. |

I can see why you liked the possibilities here. And why you chose to press the shutter when you did - the yawn. But that truck bed is a killer. |

For me, this image is "Dejection". Thinking about that, the only thing I might do is darken the image a bit. Nice shot! |

Because we cannot see the toddler, this image, to me, implies peaceful solitude or, perhaps, patient waiting. I think Victor's ideas for the water/sand are good ones. Nice job! |

I agree this is a Hopperesque image. I also agree that the wall on the right should be darkened. Other than that one correctable area, I think you have shared a terrific image. |

The oldest, and only male, grandchild has a full beard - he's a few months shy of 26, and a few months are his birthday, I'll be 79. Is that old? I don't think so. A number of my relatives have lived into their mid-90's, and I fully expect to, at least, equal them. |

Thanks, Stuart. I think we're in the "Chocolate and Vanilla" room when it comes to our likes/dislikes of this image. Of the categories you defined in your comments on Tom's image, the second is the only one that, I think, could be reasonably picked for this image. |

Great shot, Carol. Nice processing. One suggestion, crop about an inch from the bottom, this image doesn't need those "legs" on the right to stand on! |

My first comment is a question - from what part of the spider is your image? I'm guessing it's the abdomen because I seen a lot of Wolf Spiders and I've never seen that configuration. This also makes me think the spider was dead, or refrigerated to incapacitate it? Regardless of all that, I agree with Carol that you made this area of a Wolf Spider into a work of art. Nice job! |

I like this fly shot, Stuart. Only suggestions I have are to crop some of the leaf from the right side and maybe f/16 would have made the forelegs clearer. |

Welcome EK!
As someone who can often be found looking for opportunities for macro shots of insects, I'm enjoying your image of this fly. One thing that immediately concerns me is that this appears to be "close-up" image, rather than a "true macro" image, where the ratio is 1:1. We have had discussions about this since the founding of the group in 2020. If you "PID Digital Dialogue" on our site, you'll see a link to our Bulletin Board, where you'll find this discussion "Thread Title: How to Achieve True Macro" near the bottom of the board.
One thing I would suggest for your image of the fly is cropping it to make the fly more apparent as I've done in the attached image. What do you think of this cropping? |
