It can be tough to get a clear shot in a rookery. I'm not sure where your focus is, but it doesn't appear to be the bird's face? |

Terrific image, Karen. Yes, they really are that white on a sunny day. You should have a spot on a wall for this one. |

Nice composition, good coloring. Interesting composite. Adding a few vines to the wall/arch might make for a more interesting image? |

Welcome, Tim!
Nicely composed image. And who doesn't like reflections? I'd like to see more of the detail in the terrain and houses. |

Thanks, Haru. I think you're correct about cropping the bottom. Here is the image with the bottom crop you suggested. |

You really do have the panning technique down, Ata. The background is perfect and the bike and rider are really pretty clear. Are you shooting in shutter mode? |

I have always liked minimalism and this is a terrific example of that genre. The only thing I would suggest is removing the line behind the tree. I don't think it adds anything and it's not in sync with your explanation of "highlight the lonely tree". |

Welcome to the group, Trevor.
I'm also in agreement with Ying, Stephen and Ata that the shadows enhance the story-telling. I think lightening the path in the upper left would also show more of the "long walk". |

Welcome to the group, Dick.
A windy day will remove all thoughts of landscape or macro photography from my mind. You've done very well with this image considering your description of the conditions. The subject really stands out and your tones are are very good. Now, I have to go educate myself on the "Man from Mars Method of applying LAB color mode curves". |

This is something entirely new to me. I had to find an explanation of what you've done. I'm wondering why you felt the need to make 6 differently lighted shots? Is that the reason I like the detail you pulled out of the ruins? The lighted area behind the ruins is distracting. Is there a way to eliminate that area when you are light painting? |

Thanks, Victor. I didn't really think about the focus when I was processing this image. I was focusing on the woman on the left and she may have moved a bit, causing my focus to shift to the reddish plant behind her just as I hit the shutter - I use back-button focus exclusively. |

Thanks, Karen. The woman on the left was doing everything she could not to show much of her face. I had moved a couple of times and she moved with me. |

Jim, I don't agree with your comments regarding the "contemplation" aspect of the image. It seems to me that you're basing your argument on your own actions, assuming that's what everyone does. I don't think that's a correct assumption. I don't think I've ever assumed the position you've described you use when you're contemplating. And, it's entirely possible, in the case of this image, that the man is hurrying to an appointment and thinking about what he will be doing when he gets there. |

This image has had me scouring my European images because it's so reminiscent of a place I walked around on one of my European trips.
I think it's a street image, but needs more work to draw our eyes to the man. How you accomplish that is a bit beyond my post-processing knowledge at this point. |

The story for me is the four people in the midst of providing the photographer an action shot on the beach. Two are barefoot and two are wearing shoes. It seems that your shot was taken as the four were returning to the beach right-to-left, so we know who can jump highest to lowest.
I agree with Victor's comment about darkening the upper left and then lightening the entire image. |

This is a very interesting image, especially after reading the comments of Carol and Jim. I copied the image so I could expand portions of it to determine what I'm seeing. It's a bike shop and the man is showing the very young girl a bike seat. We can all imagine he's asking if she likes it, just as your title states. So there's definitely a storyline here.
I think your choices of cropping the image and converting to monochrome are correct. I don't find the cropped image to be too busy, particularly since store's interior is so dark. |

Nice action shot, Bev. I like the smile on the boy's face and the man's concentration. I think the clothing appears over-saturated while the rest of the image does not. Maybe the clothing is new? I think the ball should stay - it's GYM CLASS! |

Thanks, Tom. I do exhale a bit before holding my breath. Something I learned years ago in USAF Basic Training, the one and only time in my life that I've had a gun in my hands - 45 and M16 - we were taught to take a deep breath, let about 1/2 out, hold our breath and fire the weapon. I've never forgotten those instructions. And, I still make my bed before leaving the bedroom in the morning!! |

I rarely know the flower simply by looking at a portion of it. And, I'm not criticizing your use of the petal as the subject. I like the symmetry of flowers, with the exception of images of a group of dying, or dead, ones. |

Knowing that I'm usually the problem when I can't get something to work correctly, I never considered the lens. I've been trying this with a 24-70mm, and I was shooting in manual. I'll give them a workout with my 50mm. Thanks for the direction. |

Show me a focus stacked image of a Jumper and I'll show you a photographer who shoots dead spiders. Very nice image, Carol. You've also given us a nice example of DOF in Macro. Agree with Tom - it's all about the EYES.

Always interesting to me that flowers look so different in macro. Had you not told us, I'm guessing I wouldn't be the only one not knowing this is a daisy.
I'm gonna be the loner who finds the stray petal distracting. Other than that, I think this is a very nice image. |

The variety of colors, shapes and textures makes this interesting to me. I've been playing with this type of image for a while and haven't found anything I like. Good job!!
Incidentally, I've recently purchased a set of extension tubes and am making myself a little more insane than usual trying to get an image that is anywhere near focused. |
