29 Jun 20 Reply Thanks, Tam. You should feel like you're in Spring looking at this image, there are no flowers on that tree when now. Jun 19th
29 Jun 20 Reply Judy, thanks, in the Philly area it's also called the Sure-kill and it's rarely an Expressway. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Reply Thanks, Bev. I rarely flip an image, but I thought doing it here would be give the image a leading lines feature. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Reply Thanks, Karen. I haven't been on the SRT in the city area (yet). The Penn & Drexel (my graduate alma mater) campuses have a ton of photo ops among them. My next trip there is going to be with my macro lens. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Comment Beautiful image. My local club's theme a couple of months ago was "Silhouettes" - you'd have been the winner with this image. I like Judy's 8x10 idea. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Comment I love everything about this image, but it's the pose and the colors that really attract my eyes. I hope you picked out a spot on a wall for this one, Tam. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Comment Gotta be ready when you out in nature areas. Nice image overall - composition, color, clarity, interest. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Comment Agree with Karen about the composition and positioning of the dog-walker. Great colors and very sharp. Nice work!

The trees along the coastline in SC are really dying off due to the encroaching sea. I talked to a couple in Edisto Beach NP, where there were huge piles of dead trees, and they told me the sea had claimed about 80-100 yards of beach in a 5 year period - this was about 3-4 years ago.

29 Jun 20 Comment I have to echo Karen and Judy's comments about the beauty of Mt. Fuji and, unfortunately, about the trees. I usually travel with four lenses - 70-200, 18-270, 10-20, 50. If the scene can't be handled by one of those it's probably a macro shot. Jun 14th
29 Jun 20 Comment I went to Steptoe last year during the Conference and the wind was blowing so hard I was afraid to get near the edge. It is a great spot from which to see and photograph the Palouse.
I like the image but agree with the comments about saturation. I'm not bothered by the shaded area. Looks like late afternoon sun?

74 Jun 20 Comment I like the idea of the Running Zebras, but I think there's too much empty space in this image. I cropped it a bit at the bottom and on the right, with a larger crop of the top of the image. What do you think? Jun 8th
74 Jun 20 Comment First, I agree with your approach to making images. I also never ask, particularly in my Street Photography. I've only been challenged a few times and I simply tell what I'm doing and ask if they'd the image(s) deleted.

Two of my favorite things - simplicity and symmetry. I think your crop of the tower is really the key, my eyes are always drawn to it's center.

74 Jun 20 Comment A very nice capture of this magnificent bird. I like everything you've done in post processing. My only suggestion is that the left wing might be darkened just a bit as it appears to be blending into the background. Jun 8th
74 Jun 20 Comment I think you captured this scene at a perfect moment in time. The water, smooth in one spot but, otherwise, turbid, the surfer's eyes seeming to be looking directly at your lens, all make for a really good image. You didn't share you post processing with us, but the monochrome is also very good. Jun 8th
74 Jun 20 Comment You are constantly evoking memories for me! I like the story you're telling us, the inclusion of the Tesbih (what we 1960's Americans referred to as "Worry Beads"), and the very real physical difference between a native and a visitor. I wish there were more open space on each side of the image for the men to be walking into. Jun 8th
74 Jun 20 Comment I like this image a lot. The range of color from bright white, through the grays, to the darkest black is really good. I like it much better in monochrome.
My eyes were immediately attracted to the blossoms and then through the progression you expected. I really miss not being able to visit the gardens in the Philadelphia area to see this spectacle.

80 Jun 20 Reply Carol, click the REPLY button at the end of a response you're replying to in order to keep all the commentary between you and whoever you're conversing with together. You'll see this comment indented under the comment of yours that I'm replying to. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Comment Just a couple of general comments -

First, thank you for your comments and suggestions on this image.
Second, with all that has gone on around the world in the last weeks, I am amazed that so many of you want to lighten the skin of the woman on left.
Last, I wonder if anyone reads the title and descriptions of our images. No one mentioned my non-English language title and some comments made me wonder if the description was read.

80 Jun 20 Comment I like Street Photography that poses as many, or more, questions than it answers from the viewer. Personally, I think the man's hands are positioned to keep them away from the woman and any germs she might be spreading. I wonder if he has a full face shield? This image is a very good story of how people are being forced to interact during the Covid-19 pandemic. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Comment Bev, after more than 8 years of looking at your images, I thought I had seen all the Renaissance Fair photos in your collection. Now, I'm guessing you'll be surprising me with more? I like this guy. As Victor said, he appears to be enjoying the grog. Looks a little over-saturated and, I agree with Karen's comment about cropping out the fence. As for the pole, it is what it is - a temporary piece put in place for the fair. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Reply Ed, I'm curious about your comment that the tilted pole looks "unnatural" to you. Surely you've seen poles that are not straight? Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Comment Karen, this is a really good composition with the avenue sweeping us right up into the capitol. I think Victor's right about the tonal range and the need to do some work with the capitol and, perhaps, the sky behind it. It's almost as if we're seeing a composite where the left side of the image has the good tonal range and right doesn't. Maybe a little more work gets you a real winner. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Comment I like the heck out of this image. I'm not surprised by all the comments about the "blown out" area in back of the man. I'm in the process of watching a Netflix series filmed in Norway. There are a ton of outdoor scenes with a "blown out" background. No one notices those things in movies or television because they're concentrating on the character. Why is it different in photography? If I had done anything to this image, it would have been cropping the bottom to the top of the man's belt, just below the base of his bow. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Reply I missed the webinar but have a pretty good idea of what Maher thinks about Street Photography since I've been following him for a few years. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Comment Jim, I think you have a pretty nice image here. The subjects are individually framed and then collectively framed by the wires. I can't get on handle on whether the subject on the right is being doused by one of the fountains - it looks as if water is dripping from him and the water around him is different from other places in the image. I agree with Karen about the sign. I think because of it's place in the image and the fact that it's the only think like it that we see, that it pulls my eyes away from the rest of your otherwise very nice image. Jun 13th
80 Jun 20 Comment I agree with the previous reviewers' comments about the expressions on the faces of the woman and boy. I think the horse might have a "where's my carrot" expression on his? I like the story but, honestly, I don't think it's your best work. Jun 13th

95 Jun 20 Reply That worked very well, Tom. Jun 13th
95 Jun 20 Reply The first thing that popped into my head reading your response was, "maybe the focus ring needs lubricant". So, I went on a quick Google search and found this. I'm sure there's more where this came from.

95 Jun 20 Reply Thanks, Barbara. I tried up to f/16, but found that the background came into focus when I did that and that's something I wanted to avoid. Jun 9th
95 Jun 20 Reply Thanks, Barbara. I've found that a shutter speed of 1/250 is sufficient for subjects that don't exhibit a lot of motion. Jun 9th
95 Jun 20 Comment This is a pretty neat idea. I like that you used natural light. The image appears somewhat unfocused to me. Perhaps stepping up to f/16 would help? I also think apply a burn to the bright areas would be helpful. Jun 9th
95 Jun 20 Comment Tom, I hope you continue to experiment with the microscope on smaller objects/subjects. I'm fascinated by the eyes and mandible. I think you need to concentrate on a smaller area. Jun 9th
95 Jun 20 Comment Welcome to the Group, Nilan!

This is a really good capture of a flying insect. The sharpness and colors are really good, and show that bumping the ISO to get a faster shutter speed doesn't have a negative effect in newer cameras. I find the background to be very distracting. I don't know if you tried to mitigate the white and the yellow/green areas, but they really pull my eyes away from flower and bee.

95 Jun 20 Comment I am constantly amazed at the number of images you, and Tom, make to construct a stack. The results, obviously, warrant your doing that. I'm curious. Just how much time did you spend (a) making those images and (b) in the post-processing. I don't see anything in the image you overlooked. Great job! Jun 9th
