6 Aug 19 Comment Tom - I really like this image. The most interesting thing to me is that the flower is closed. I'm really hard-pressed to think of another hibiscus image I've seen that didn't emphasize the core of an open flower? Aug 14th
6 Aug 19 Comment Very nice image Madhu. Love the DOF - I think it puts the focus in exactly the right place. Aug 14th

29 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Jim. I think there are things that each of us sees differently than others - just look at the posts the last few years from this group. There's a guy in our club is really good with cars, something I've never been able to get.

Replying to your "Second thought", I agree that the B&W is good (I'm going to submit it to Group 74 at some point), I, too, think the way the color plays in the image is better than the B&W version.

29 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Judy. Never hear of RollWorld? I use, primarily, Snapseed on my Samsung S9 - occasionally Polarr. I've already decided on it's going to appear in Group 74 at some point. Aug 23rd
29 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Tam. Aug 23rd
29 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Lisa. I don't remember how many floors are in the hotel, but this image was made standing just off the lobby. Aug 23rd

29 Aug 19 Comment Love the North End. Back in my consulting days I spent a lot of time in the Boston area and I went directly from Logan to the North End for dinner on every trip. Now my granddaughter's in college in Cambridge and she, too, loves the North End.

I really like this shot. Would be great in Group 80. For me, the image is about the woman at the door and the apparent conversation she's having with the trio.

29 Aug 19 Comment This really whets my appetite for the Palouse next month during the PSA Conference in Spokane. The colors and endless contours make for a really good image. Aug 23rd
29 Aug 19 Comment Right time, right place, right setting. Very nice image, Karen. Aug 23rd
29 Aug 19 Comment I think you did pretty well. The composition is good and the color of the flower is definitely good and it's sharp. The pad is probably suffering due to your f/9 setting.

I'm a member at Longwood, so I'm there at least monthly. I love the lily ponds, which are only open from Memorial Day until about mid-October. I've finally learned to only mount my macro lens in that area. I think a tripod and diffused flash are musts.
For me, those pads are always difficult to blend in with the flowers and my f-stop is usually 11 or 16.

29 Aug 19 Comment This guy makes me laugh. Definitely putting on a bit of attitude - "You looking at me?". Nice composition and color. Sharp.
If looking for shots at the track, you have to get down near the track and shoot panning shots. The horses are REALLY fast, so I found it took me a few trips to find the right settings, the right spot to stand and the right panning speed.

60 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, John. Interesting that you mention the catchlight - it's something I don't try for and, to be honest, I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. I probably have 20-30 shots of this insect because it never stopped moving and I felt it's position wasn't the best. I finally settled on this image because it presented the view of all the parts of the insect. Aug 13th
60 Aug 19 Comment I like this shot a lot. For me, it's about the contrasting colors that pull the flower away from the background. I know the background's there, but the flower draws all of my attention. Nice composition and it seems a little soft, but I've come to expect that from you, Denise. Aug 13th
60 Aug 19 Comment Creatures hiding under leaves has been a bane to my insect hunting this year. I like the results of your persistence with this cat. Very life-like image, with really nice color and sharpness. Aug 13th
60 Aug 19 Comment Very nice minimalist image. Nice color, the small amount of blurring is not distracting to me and the dark background really pushes the stem and bud forward (almost feels like 3D). Agree with Denise about cropping out the upper bud. Aug 13th
60 Aug 19 Comment Really good capture of this Shield bug. I like finding these insects because they have a tendency to pose for me. Nice coloring and clarity. I agree with Denise about removing the brown spots. Aug 13th
60 Aug 19 Comment Great shot Carol! Terrific color and sharpness. Composition is really good. I have quite a few insect mating images and wouldn't hesitate to put them up for view here if I felt they were good enough or I wanted suggestions for improvement. Aug 13th

74 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Angela. At 76, I'm part of that newer generation of seniors that you mention. I, and a number of my friends and acquaintances are quite active, eat smart and exercise regularly. We're intent on doing this for as long as possible. Aug 27th
74 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Bob. I like your crop of the image. Aug 27th
74 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Pamela. I think you and Arne are telling me the same thing. Aug 27th
74 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Alicia. What apps are you using on your smartphone? Aug 27th
74 Aug 19 Reply Thanks, Arne. Aug 27th
74 Aug 19 Comment I, too, like your use of DOF here. And I wonder what the result might have been with the application of Arne's comment about a wider aperture? Personally, when the opportunity to make this type of image presents itself to me I'm always in a quandary about which of the objects should be the one in focus. Aug 14th
74 Aug 19 Comment I think the monochrome is the better choice. I think Pamela's suggestion for a vignette is a good one. Because I do a lot of macro photography, most of it insects, it's the unfocused butterfly that bothers me most about this image. I rarely go wider than f/11 when I'm chasing insects. Aug 14th
74 Aug 19 Comment I like the monochrome image. I agree with Arne's comment about the background remnants. Aug 14th
74 Aug 19 Comment I think the conversion to monochrome, cropping and wire removal all work well here. I have to agree with Pamela's comment regarding the darkness hiding the detail. Aug 14th

80 Aug 19 Comment I'm not a big fan of this kind of post-processing (as Bev knows, since we've know each other in PSA for about 7 years). However, there's a ton of "street art", of all kinds, on various sites in the internet, including PSA. If you look at the original and the processed images, there's really no difference other than the Topaz processing. I'm in favor of allowing that - though the probability of you finding that done to one of my images is approaching negative territory.

All that being said, I like what you've done Bev.

80 Aug 19 Comment Nice story! Like that the whole family's pitching in to help this women conquer the hill. Very colorful and sharp image. For me, there's too much other stuff going on in the background that I find distracting. I wonder if you had sat down on the path and taken the shot if that background "noise" would have been eliminated? Aug 18th
80 Aug 19 Comment This kid is simply TOO CUTE! Great color and clarity. I think if you'd have cropped out the top portion to get rid of the black block on the right, the image would be much better. Wish you had gotten down to her level before pushing the shutter button. Aug 18th
80 Aug 19 Comment I think I'm seeing a different story that everyone else. There are two people on the left - one's eating and the other's using a phone. There appear to be two people on the right, hidden by the building. And, there's another person with her(?) back to us. I'm not bothered by the apparent crookedness of the image. I think the colors are OK and the sharpness is about a good as can be expected given the condition of the window. Norman Rockwell? Perhaps the haziness might make one think that's true. I don't think so. Aug 18th
80 Aug 19 Comment Interesting image. I look for this kind of thing when I'm "street-walking". I think it's difficult to get an acceptable street photo if you only have someone's reflection and no one on the inside to provide a counterpoint. I think the confectionaries are sharp enough and colorful enough to be recognizable and the man's reflection is blurred, as I would expect it to be. For me, they just don't mesh well enough.
