I leveled it to the black area at the base of the image. I keep looking at it and thinking I should have used the curb across the street. In any case you're right it looks off-kilter.
And, yes, these phonecams are getting to be damn good. |

I was in Bombay Hook with a friend this past Thursday (not a lot to see). I stopped at Prime Hook last year - the day after I was at Assateague - we're planning to go to Prime Hook in the spring. |

I like this image a lot. You didn't mention it, but I'm assuming you did a monochrome conversion? I like that you kept the highlights, and your settings really bring out the details. |

I find shots of the Palouse almost mesmerizing. The undulating topography, the lighting, the colors, the expanse, and the little things that grab your eye - in this case, the structure in the bottom left corner. Very nice image, Tam. |

This is a really cool shot! The colors are great and zoom streaks are really eye-catching. What I find interesting is that my eyes keeps landing in that "dead" space at the center/right.
I've tried the zoom technique on a number of things, but never considered the Christmas tree - have to tuck that away for 10 months. |

I went to both the Va. & Md. sites on my way home from Fl. last spring. Did not see any ponies in Va., and less than a dozen in Md.
I like your composition and the colors are really true-to-life. The shadows make it pretty easy to tell you were there early or late in the day. |

I like the image. I think you did pretty well under the time constraints. I also like the adjustments Stephen made. |

I like your composition on this, with the rather wide, open space leading to a more confined area. The lines and shapes are interesting. I think I like Stephen's monochrome a little better than the original. I think if a person were in the image, it would have to be someone dressed either in flaming red or a patterned black and white outfit. |

Just sneaking a peek! Here's an answer to your "technically wild" thought. I went looking because I thought they are wild.
Although popularly known as Chincoteague ponies, the feral ponies actually live on Assateague Island. The entire Island is owned by the federal government and is split by a fence at the Maryland/Virginia state line, with a herd of around 150 ponies living on each side of the fence. |

Regarding the light - it was a cold, sunless day in NW Philadelphia - you may have noticed snow in some of the bark separations. I almost never take my flash on those kinds of days because it makes things look very unnatural. I agree that it might benefit from a little sharpening. Don't know what the "HSL green slider" is or what it would add? |

Nadia, I think the eye, the rest of side of the fly's face, and the portion of it's back and side up to the start of the wing are very clear and colorful. Unlike the rest of the group, I don't like the out of focus areas. I'm wondering if this is the effect of the Raynox gear, since you shot this at f10, which would usually have most, if not all, of the fly in focus? I'll admit to never having heard of Raynox, so I'll be going on a Google hunt shortly to find out what it's about. |

Denise, my first thought on looking at this was "Come On Spring"! Seems like I'm the only member of the group who likes going into the cold with my camera, BUT I can't wait for the insects to reappear. Love the color of this insect. My thought, before reading the rest of the comments, was that the right side was lighter than the left. However, I don't do anything close the the PP that the rest of the group does, so I had no real suggestion for how to even the sides out. I like what you did based on Carol and Nadia's comments. To Bob's comment about the ring light I'll say that I bought one a couple of years ago. Used it a half-dozen times and tossed it. I have a Nikon SB700 that I use with a Fotodiox 6x9 diffuser which I find is much easier to control. |

I really like the off-center composition, the colors and the clarity of this image. It looks to me as if you've mounded the sand under, and to the sides of, the shell, and which is what I think causes the sand immediately behind the shell to be out of focus? |

This is a very nice macro image - and your daughter is very talented. You've really capture the details and your composition, color and sharpness are all very good. I have the same question that Bob asked about this being a single mosaic or a composite? |

Just a great image, Carol. Window light is one of my favorite things for indoor photos. I think your treatment of the texture is excellent. I don't believe I'd have seen the ballerina, but since you mentioned it... |

A good example of leading lines for anyone who doesn't quite understand the meaning. There's a kind of grandeur to this image that you would expect to get in a state capitol. I think your composition choice is the source of that feeling of grandeur. I'll join the "needs more contrast" line. |

What a neat idea! And I get to learn to how to create an invisible black background at no extra cost!!
I really like this image - splattered background aside. Reflexively, I think Arne's lightening is good, but reading David's explanation of the mood he's trying to convey makes me like the original. Lots of mental back-and-forth with this image and the comments it elicited. |

I agree with you and Pamela on the separation but the couple had been side-by-side to the point of not seeing the woman on most of their walk. |

I like your composition. Pamela's Snapseed conversion really brings out the textures on the animal's skin. |

I like composition you created with your cropping of the image. I think that smidgen (also a technical term!) of contrast that David applied took care of the flat feeling Pamela mentioned. |

Wow, Hema, did you really shoot this at 1/6? Handheld? Braced maybe? I like the composition that leads me past the mural and up the street so I can wonder if you're the only person around? Good coloring and clarity. I'm curious about your white balance setting? |

A nice mother-son image that evokes memories of something I'm sure all of us with children have done at some time. Wish I could see at least a little more of their faces but, at the same time, I think this pose lends a little something on it's own. Nice shot, Bev. |

I like this image a lot. For me the left side is where my eyes keep going - to the man looking through the door and the bicycle. I like the all of the colors are muted. Nice composition and clarity. |

Rich, you seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. With that much green, you might have thought of saving it for next month? There's green all over this image including, if my monitor and eyes are working correctly, even reflecting from his shoes! |
