Bob, I think your blurred background might work for that night shot you're suggesting, and I think that's a good suggestion if for no other reason than to see what you can get out of the night scene. However, I think the active background is an important element of Jim's daytime shot. |

I left the piece on the left side in (you cropped it out) because it doesn't draw my eye. |

Jim, I don't have any problem with you placing your name on the image - so long as it's not in the middle! I just found the underwater concrete(?) distracting and not adding anything to your image, which I really like otherwise. |

Tam, you are very good at capturing stage scenes. The only thing I think is a problem is the one mentioned by Steven Levitas - that the woman's arm is blocking the man's face. |

She's looking at your for a handout, not a place in front of the TV! That look was pretty common at friend's house when they forgot to put the corn out before 5pm. I think the image is good photographically, but, personally, I don't find it interesting. |

Judy, this is way too cool. I think the white circles are perfectly placed in this image. Good sharpness and very colorful. |

Your comment about the cloud brings to mind Joni Mitchell's "Both Side Now", and the line,"But clouds got in my way". I think you picked the perfect time, half sun - half shadow. Agree with Karen that it's a lovely spot. |

This image feels like part of a series to me, like it should be covered by the next one flipping over it, a progression of changes from a starting point. Tons of color, tons of things to look at, tons of "what is that" in this image. Like Jim, I picked up on the missing flask. Would love to see what this would look like had you found it!!! |

Hi Bill, I agree that it's not a shot that I'm normally inclined to submit. It's definitely not going in a frame to be hung on my wall. There's a lot stuff all around the mushroom but, isn't that what you'd expect to see if you're walking through a field? I looked at the scene for a long time before I decided to make the image. That's not a insect on the mushroom, it just more of the debris. I was curious about two things - 1) could I even get a decent image by lying on the ground, and 2) what would the group's response be. I think I answered the first, now I'm getting the second. Should be interesting! |

My eyes keeping going back to the young monkey's eyes. You did a great job of grabbing the catch light in it's eyes. And the expression on it's face is also kind of captivating. I think I might have cropped out some of the left side as it doesn't add anything to the image. |

Interesting! Flowers are not among the first things that pop into my mind when thinking about B&W. You may have elevated them in my thinking the next time I go walking through Longwood Gardens or a similar place. I like what Isaac did to bring out the details. And I thank you for the info about the black background. |

I really like the lines and shapes in this image. I think your choice of monochrome is much better than the colors of the original. Very nice! |

I think you made all the right choices with this image Angela. The focus is pin sharp at the focal point and the rest is pleasingly bokehed. The sense of motion is very realistic. I don't do competitions, but I'll bet this image would do well in one. |

Arne, very nice image. It's interesting what 2 sec. will get you - the sky, for instance, might be my favorite part of the image, though there are many areas on interest here.
I find your answer to David about not changing your settings to be kind of intriguing - it makes it sound as if you let the image come to you with pre-set settings, rather than seeking it out by changing your settings as the light changed. |

Thank you Sibani. Yes, the image was made with my 27mm prime lens. To be honest, I didn't expect to get a very good result shooting from that distance. |

Thanks David. I think it's not just the man's shorts that fade into the background, but also the woman's. About the lens - I tend to take a single lens with me and that day I was walking around Philly with the 27mm specifically looking for street photo opportunities. I just happened to see, and be drawn to, that scene across the street. I really didn't have much hope for a usable image at that distance, but found I really liked the way the light played across the scene. |

Arne, I did not take your comments as harsh criticism. I am curious because we're obviously not seeing the same thing. Maybe it is just me, but I don't see any more detail in the original that in the crop. |

Thanks Arne. I'm curious about what details you think are lost in the image. And I don't believe, with today's cameras, that 1000 is a high ISO? |

Thanks, Rich. If you look at the 2nd & 3rd images, I think you can almost intuit what she's saying - she's sure not happy with him. The interesting thing to me about this image is that, regardless of the group or individuals I've displayed this for, no one mentions the people behind the windows on the train who seem to be totally oblivious to what's going on just a short distance from them, probably because they can't hear it. |

I think your composition, colors and sharpness are all very good. For me, the focal point of this very busy image is the cathedral and the sky, not the people and the bridge. The bridge is what you say it is, leading lines taking my eyes to the background. |

Nice composition, great colors and perfect timing. Like this shot a lot. The large black ball is a bit of a distraction. Did you try cropping it out? |

Colin, this is, for me, A day inn the working life of Birmingham. Chased me to the dictionary for "street busker". I don't know about other parts of the US, but here in the Philadelphia area we call them "street musicians". I like that you followed and wait for the right opportunity. Very nice story image. |

Rich, the story, for me, is as much about the guy outside seemingly oblivious to what's going on with this family, as it is about the family. Dad's engrossed in his phone. Son's zeroed in on you. And daughter's watching brother. Nice capture of today's family behavior. |

I like this shot a lot. One of the things that interests me is there are five people and no one's talking! I try to capture a lot of "through the window" shots, so I understand the difficulty. You did a good job of having everything in focus and letting us see the people inside, as well as the reflections (and as Rich mentioned - YOU). Nice job! |

I should also mention that the three additional "original" pictures were taken after the main image to illustrate what happen next in what seemed to be a one-sided conversation. |
