Thanks Jim. I happen to agree with your complaint. I seem to do most of my bird photography during my time in Florida each winter and very little when I'm at home, or even traveling to other locations. I think it is the big lenses you mentioned that are cause. When you can get "up close" to a bird or any creature, including non-posing humans, I think it has a bigger viseral impact than the areas you mentioned. And you're right, it's too bad. |

I like these architectural shots. Don't think I've ever gotten this close to a building but I may try it after seeing this shot. The curve in the building is pretty neat. |

Like this - not an easy shot to capture. Like Karen's changes. |

This would definitely be on wall in my house if I had shot it! Really beautiful image. Like Judy's crop. |

Nice shot! I don't recall seeing this but there was so much to see that's not too surprising. Like Bob's crop and the colors. |

I've never seen a sheep sheared this way. It's always been one guy with hand shears and the sheep hasn't always looked at placid at this one. Think I like Judy's crop. |

Neat shot! Lots of lines and shapes with a minimum of complimentary coloring. I like Tam's crop. I'm also looking forward to that 2019 Spokane conference |

I always look forward to your comments Bob.
The wing at the bottom belongs to the chick closest to the camera. What I cropped out at the bottom is the head of a Wood Stork from a slightly lower nesting spot, otherwise you'd have seen more of the chick and known it was it's wing.
I get why people want the eyes brightened, but I'm definitely in the camp of the Nature restriction about changing the image. I think if you want to submit an image to a Nature site and/or competition it should be an accurate depiction of what you saw and photographed, not what you'd like it be in a "doctored" way. I really am a SOOC kinda guy. |

Who's Carrie Furnace and why would I want to post a picture of her? Ha! Truth is that I didn't get many shots there that I like. I'll take another look.
Thanks for the comments on this image. I think rookery shots really are about luck in timing - and probably persistence. |

Thanks, Karen. Sorry, but I don't think I like your changes. To me it makes the birds have a outline and looks like they might have been pasted onto a background. |

This shot reminds me of when my grandkids were small and would shove a flower in my face! I think you accomplished your focus goal. I like the composition and the colors. Personally, I don't like it when the center of the bud is OOF. |

Wow! The dragonfly is so sharp against a really good bokeh background that it looks as if it is two images merged. The far wings are the giveaway that that's not the case. This may be the best non-macro lens macro shot I've seen. Really good capture! |

I think you accomplished what you wanted. The stamen and pistils are definitely the focal point of what I agree with Carol is more of an abstract image. I also agree with the comments about the green and white areas being a distraction. |

I'm with Denise on the color scheme, the background darkening and the composition. But for me this just doesn't work. There's too much competition from the OOF areas to keep my interest in the areas that are focused. |

Sorry I missed you at the conference Ginger. I was in that room before the session got going, but didn't stay. Looks like I should have! You got a really good result for your efforts. Lots of color and pretty sharp with a very interesting composition. |

I didn't think about mentioning post-processing because I do the same few things with every image - tweak the brightness and contrast, do an auto-sharpening. I usually do some kind of cropping and will straighten where necessary. If I find something that really annoys me, I'll try to delete it, but usually don't have a lot of success doing that. I dislike sitting in front of the computer and trying to make something more "competition worthy". I have never, and don't ever intend to, enter an image into competition of any kind. I try to get better with every shot I take and really appreciate the critique I get from each of the PSA groups I belong to and the photo club at the community where I was formerly a resident and they've kept me as member. I like to think I learn something not just from what's said about my submissions, but also from seeing what everyone else is doing and their explanations of how they accomplish what they submit. |
