Michael, I don't usually play with the luminosity slider. That's a great idea. I will try it. |

Thanks for your comments, Andres. I like the cracks and bubbles in the ice too. |

Kieu-Hanh, you're very observant. The roses weren't completely covered with water. In the past, I did put them under more water, but it's hard to do. I had to weight down the roses. This time I just let the roses float in the water (stems and leaves tend to sink). I used a 9" X 13" baking pan, putting the whole pan with roses and water in the freezer. When frozen, I ran warm water over the pan, so the block of ice tipped out. Then I placed the block of ice on a light table with a light in front too. |

Michael, I love your title suggestion! I haven't found a way to brighten up the flowers more in my original photos because of the backlit situation. However, Lightroom and PhotoShop do an amazing job of lightening the brightening the flowers. Thanks for your kind comments. |

Joan, that's a great idea to arrange the middle rose higher than the other two. Unfortunately, the flowers floating in water don't always cooperate with my intentions of their placement. They sometimes move before they freeze in place. I will try to be more purposeful about the arrangement when freezing the flowers. Thanks for your comments. |

Joan, I like how the levels of yellow and greens work with the vertical lines of the trees. I agree that you've found a good balance of shutter speed and aperture to keep some of the detail of branches while blurring the tree trunks. When I've used ICM, I've sometimes used a composite to add sharper objects or details. However, without doing a composite, I think you've done well to keep some detail if that was your intention. I would agree with your observation that ICM photos don't always score well in competitions. Sometimes we can like a particular image we take, even while knowing that the photo won't score well. |

Kieu-Hanh, what an enchanting view! I love how you've framed the minaret and dome by the shaped doorway. The colors are bright and attractive. I especially like the subtle reflection of the distant skyline on the floor. It's a striking image, Kieu-Hanh! |

Robert, how wonderful that you stretched yourself to try some street photography. I agree that her expression says a lot about the long hours of waiting at a street market. You've included enough of her stand's wares to identify the location of the photo while keeping my focus on the vendor. The composition works for me as the woman is staring off into the distance and out of the frame. Nice job. |

Michael, you've captured a beautiful scene at a magical time. The fog enhances the mood of this peaceful view. The lone hot air balloon is that final touch of delight. Since you didn't include the original, I'm wondering how much you enhanced the color of the light from the original. Just curious. Looks like a marvelous place to travel with friends. Beautiful image, Michael! |

Andres, I think the conversion to b&w helps emphasize the strong geometric design in your photo. Brightening the rails strengthens the bold lines of the track. Your phone worked well to capture the detail in the bolts and wood. I agree with Michael and Joan that your blurring is rather abrupt, but I think some blurring of the distant background helps my eyes focus on the tracks. |

Michael, the misty background and soft sky makes a dreamlike background for your lone tree. The darker, detailed foreground provides a balanced base for the image. I wonder if you took any shots of the tree with more space to the right. With the tree leaning to the right, my eye is looking for a bit more space to the right. It's a scene with haunting beauty. What a wonderful place for a landscape class! |
