Michael, the photographer's artistic choice is key. I appreciate your explanation. |

Thanks for your kind response, Robert. I will have to consider making this photo into a print at some point. |

The old cannon and weathered stone wall on which it's positioned offer some wonderful textures. Plus, I find the buildings in the background give a sense of place to this travel photo. If you chose, you could add contrast to the sky and make it more dramatic with the interesting clouds. I agree with the others that the white railing is distracting and doesn't fit with the old world feeling of the cannon. However, I understand that if you want to use the photo as a "travel photo", then you can't remove the railing or other elements in the photo. |

Joan, I like the fog in your photo and the mysterious mood it gives. The low horizon line and vertical lines of the trees work well. I agree with Michael and Mary Ann that you could consider a B&W conversion. The varying blacks and whites of the trees would be emphasized more. |

Mary Ann, you've created a colorful and vivid image of the Bird of Paradise. (I'm impressed that you grow it in your backyard!) I especially like the version you created using Michael's suggestions. Darkening the background, plus adding saturation and sharpness to the flower brings out the colors even more. Beautiful job! |

Joan, thanks for your comments. I too wondered how dark to make the image. I was playing with different presets and liked how dramatic the higher contrast made the image. |

Thank you so much for your positive and encouraging comments, Michael. I probably wouldn't have considered this photo for B&W conversion, except that our club had a monochrome topic in this month's competition. I do like the ripples on sand for a monochrome with a lot of contrast. |

Robert, I like how your image captures the fog and water reflections of early morning in San Francisco. The five evenly spread lights works so well in the composition. Your cropping and straightening of the dock is wisely done. The appearance of the seal in the water is the surprise element that adds that spark of joy. Your photo sets a wonderful mood, Robert. |

Michael, I appreciate how the ICM has given a unique view of the Eiffel Towel with the skyline behind. For me, the Eiffel Tower is recognizable and is distinct from the other buildings. I find the bottom white blocks of light to be distracting. They could either be cropped out or darkened if you wanted the focus to be more on the Eiffel Tower. Kudos for trying something different with a recognizable architectural structure. |

Andres, I like the position of the rower off to the side. Your processing of the sun reflection with a golden glow also works for me. The subtle swirls of water from the oars adds a nice detail. You could consider lightening the rower's face and hands to draw a bit more attention there. |

Jennie, I like how your sky conversion and boost of color has turned a fairly ordinary shot into an impactful image. Well done! |
