Joan, thank you for your comments. You are right that the lake reflections made the scene even more beautiful. |

Michael, I totally understand your comment about snapping the shutter to capture the moment. In this case, the flying bird adds to the scene. |

Ahh, your explanation makes sense, that someone was saving a spot on the beach. I'm sure that later in the day the beach will be much more crowded. What a fun photo to remember your travels in Spain! |

Kieu-Hanh, you seem to find such interesting locations to photograph in your travels. I'd love to hear more about the beach umbrellas in your image. They seem to be printed in the pattern of different countries' flags. Is that correct? Do you know why the flag designs were used? Your inclusion of the beach and water background gives your photo a scene of place. The people in the background add scale and a feeling that the beach here offers relaxation. |

Mary Ann, I'm jealous that you got to visit Portugal. It's such a fascinating place to visit with its unique history and natural beauty. I like how you sharpened and given more contrast to the background hill. Cropping out the top eliminates the distracting bright sky. The winding street offers many details that communicate the feeling of Portugal. I wonder if you have picked a center of interest in your scene when you took the picture. Identifying a center of interest might help draw the eye with such a busy street scene. |

Joan, you found a fun way to use photography for greeting cards. Your choice of the bright red adds vibrancy to the scene. I'm sure your granddaughter loves her picture used in such a personalized card. I too use my photography and artwork for personalized cards. It makes the cards very special that way, especially when your grandchildren live so far away. |

Robert, your decision to do the close-in crop makes your photo much more dramatic to me. You have a nice level of blur on the wings and tail to help me feel the bird's flight. The bird's sharp eyes are a huge bonus, since it feels like he's looking right at me. I do like Michael's use of the radial filter. Darkening the background helps define the cardinal more too. What an entertaining place to watch and photograph! |

Michael, what an unusual bird house complex you've captured! The shape of each bird house looks so different than the norm because of the long entry portion. I like how the chipped paint and rough texture shows clearly. You shot at just the right time to catch the bird in flight as well as the resting birds. The inclusion of the unique fence adds to the scene. I would prefer that the line of the hill not fall directly at the bottom of the one bird house, but that's a tiny detail. It looks like the Faroe Islands are a picturesque place to visit! |

Hi David. I enjoy the peaceful scene that you've captured. All the moss on the rocks is especially pretty (something we rarely see in Colorado). Your slow shutter gives just a hint of water blur, which communicates a calmness to the scene. I appreciate your decision to warm up the greens in the scene. I would prefer a bit more saturation for the greens to display the vibrancy of life that New Zealand forests have. I'd love to come back to New Zealand someday because of all the natural beauty your country has. |
