Thanks for you comments, Joan. California does have some wonderful landscape possibilities. You are fortunate that you have an extensive digital collection of photos. Going through old photos brings all those memories to life too. |

Robert, congratulations on your photo in this month's Member Showcase! You captured the bee in flight so well. |

Robert, I understand what you're saying about the proportion of the clouds. Having a selection of different sky photos would be very helpful. |

Thanks, Robert! Robert, after looking at your sky replacement, maybe I should look at saving some of my skies from this day at Cottonwood Pass. |

Thanks for your comments, Mary Ann. You've all encouraged me to look at further adjustments, especially with the shadows. I'll do that. Thanks. |

Paul, you are right that Colorado is such a beautiful place to live! The advantage we have is visiting the mountains at all times of the year. Sometime the worst weather conditions are the most beautiful. |

Kieu-Hanh, you are right about the timing of our visit made a huge difference in the drama of the threatening sky and white, fresh snow. When we reached the top of the pass, my husband and I said, "Wow!" I'm glad my photo captures the beauty of that moment (and not the chill of the bitter wind!). |

Michael, thank you for your comments and suggestions. You're right that I didn't adjust the shadows in the trees. That adjustment does add detail to the middle distance of the photo. I also will explore the lighting on the foreground snow. |

Joan, the vibrant colors of the poppies makes your photo shine. I like your editing that added sharpness and contrast. I think your photo works well with the two poppies instead of three. As Kieu-Hanh pointed out, the difference in heights is what creates the pleasing composition. Lovely image! |

Mary Ann, I like how you've captured the pelicans in flight, especially with the spray of water hitting the rocks. You've done a nice job of lightening the pelicans so they show more clearly against the dark rocks. It's interesting to compare the cropping you used and the tighter crop that Michael suggests. In both photos, the spray of water is on a line of thirds (just moved from right to left). Michael includes all four pelicans, instead of three. I do like the tighter crop. However, the comparison between the two versions helps me appreciate the choices we make as photographers. What a beautiful place to visit and photograph! |

Kieu-Hanh, what a fascinating building! Your angle works well to show the spiraling stairway. The people in the shot are a plus to show scale and add a personal touch of activity. I love that that the older, colorful buildings are in the background. I agree with the suggestion for the square crop. Your photo makes a pleasing journalistic, architectural, or travel photo. Happy New Year! |

Robert, I like your inclusion of the bright gold flowers in the foreground of your image. That gold contrasts nicely with the oranges of the rock cliffs, and green of the trees. Nice job of lightening the shadows on the right side to show more detail. Kudos on trying a sky replacement! Clouds in the sky do add more drama and interest. Using one of your own skies would probably be even better. |

Michael, I appreciate your creativity in trying a new look for your mushroom photo. The lacy fringe on the mushroom and delicate colors are lovely. One element I really like about the original is the freshness and vitality of the colors. I think it's that vibrant color that I miss in the edited version. Michael, enjoy your new camera and continue exploring! |

David, I enjoy the rusty, vintage look of this old car. The colors in your image add to the vintage look. I like the background of the corrugated metal, which gives a rustic look to the scene. The discussion about how much to crop is interesting. The more modern pole on the left side is, in my opinion, something that can distract from the vintage look. Good eyes on spotting this old car! |

Paul, I like how you extended the orange light of sunset further into the waves. The flying geese add a lovely detail in the sky. Having them fly in the opposite direction would be better yet. |
