Joan, the yellow of the mustard plants adds to your scene. I like the pattern of the repeating posts. As Kieu-Hanh-Hanh says, the panoramic view of the rows reminds me of lavender field photos. Beautiful view! |

Mary Ann, you made a good decision to crop in closer, so I can see the details of the dragonfly. The background is nicely blurred, which lets me focus on the dragonfly. I like the crops that Michael and Kieu-Hanh-Hanh suggest that bring the dragonfly even closer and show off details of the wings. Enlarging the wings, lets me see even the tips that fade into the background a bit. Nicely done. |

Kiey-Hanh, the clouds and wet pavement capture the rainy view of the basilica. The bright umbrellas and raincoats give pops of color to the scene. Your straightening of the sidewalk works well to give diagonal lines to direct my eyes. Amazing what our mobile phones can photograph these days. |

Ruth, your portrait of Enid looks very natural and relaxed. I like that Enid is not looking at the camera, but instead lost in her thoughts. I agree with you that a bit more "head room" would be helpful on the top. The detail that I like is that the lamp shade is slightly crooked. It's a lovely photo to share with your friend. |

Michael, I like that you continued with your windows theme. I particularly like the subtle coloring that you used on the rose. It does give the impression of "Faded Dreams." I also appreciate that you played with the window frame, by not making them even or in perfect perspective. Including the reflections, mutes my view and makes it more dreamlike. Creatively done! |

LuAnn, finding the bear in a tree makes this an unusual nature photo. In my opinion, you did a nice job of lightening the bear's fur, so that I can see the details. A wildlife sanctuary like this, allows for wonderful close-up animal photos. As Joan mentioned, your photo doesn't qualify for a PSA "Nature" photo, since you aren't allowed to clone to cover up the sky. However, it works for an "Open" or "Traditional" category. Nicely done! |

Kieu-Hanh, thank you for your positive comments. I used regular tap water for the ice. I put the rose in a 9-1/2" x 13" metal cake pan, and filled it with water until the rose was partly submerged. I had to weight the rose down, so it didn't float on top. It takes 1-2 days for the ice to freeze solid. It's fun to try different options. |

Michael, thank you for your comments and kind words. I agree that the light shining through the petals is a great benefit to using the light box. |

Thank you for your comments. The freezing does make the colors rather "dead" and drab. Some brightening is definitely needed. |

LuAnn, thank you for your comments and your example of editing. I think I had used a filter to lighten the rose, probably a brush. As you suggest, it can be brightened further as you demonstrate. I think I like more of the leaves showing, so the rose is more off-center, however I appreciate you showing me an option for cropping. |
