I usually use the Rule of Thirds when I crop. When I looked at how you cropped using the Golden Spiral, I wondered what a crop would look like if you used the single white fluff seed as the center of the spiral. So I tried it. You can see that the crop is different. Plus, a rotation of the image was helpful to make the spiral work. What do you think of this new look? |

Thank you for your comments, Joan. The historic power station is fascinating. It was built in 1907 to provide power for the mines in the area. It was repaired and reopened in 1991 to provide renewable energy for Telluride. Eric Jacobson did the restoration and moved his family into the residence. The steep road up to the power station is closed in the winter, but open to drive up (with 4-wheel drive) or hike in the summer. |

Thanks for your input, LuAnn. Substituting the sky is a good way of balancing the brightness on the right side. |

Mary Ann, thanks for your comments. Cropping some of the sky off the right side does eliminate some of the brightness on that side. |

This was a new one for me! I'd never heard of dog surfing before! I like the angle you used that lets me see the dog's eyes and his clutching of the board. Including the foaming wave gives an idea of the movement and drama of the moment. Fun shot! |

For me, the speed of your shot is just right. You've captured all the details of the hummingbird while showing the blur of the one wing. The sharpness of the eye, feathers, and feet are remarkable. The positioning of the bird's feet fit with with some kind of landing spot, so leaving the berries at the bottom makes sense to me. |

I enjoy the composition of your image that includes the altar area in the bottom as well as the ceiling and upper windows. In spite of the challenging lighting conditions, the church interior is clear and the colors of the windows are visible. I tend to do horizontal panos, so I'm impressed that the vertical pano works well too. Nicely done, Kieu-Hanh. |

Ruth, your timing was excellent to capture this jumping kangaroo with the female and baby in the background. The lighting is great and brightens up the tan coat of the kangaroo. Your fast shutter speed caught all the animal's details, including a sharp face and eye. I'd suggest a tighter crop on the top, to accent the dynamic jumper. Well done! |

What a fun image! The bright red lettering, yellow door, and stickers bench and window show such character for this unusual place of business. The close crop works to eliminate distractions. Saturating the colors as LuAnn suggests does fit the eye catching store front. |

LuAnn, your photo stacking gave terrific detail to the seeds and fluff of the milkweed pod. For me, the black background accents the white of the fluff and sets off the strands on the single seed on the right. I'd suggest that one consideration might be the cropping, maybe a bit off the top and left to put the pod off center and highlight that single seed with its fluff. Excellent image! |
