Joan, the timing of your shot is great with wonderful positioning of the boat framed by the bridge. I like the complementary colors of orange and blue too. The diagonals of the bridge supports give movement to the image. I'm curious about your depth of field, since to my eyes the sailboat isn't as sharp as the bridge. Did you intend for the bridge to be the focus or the boat? |

Michael, I like this image too. The colors of the clothing is especially attractive. However, I like the composition of your original photo better. |

Chuck, I take your comments as a wonderful compliment! You live in a beautiful area of Colorado. You are correct about the right time and weather. The incoming storm about an hour before sunset gave fabulous lighting. Peak aspen time, as you know, is a prime time for photography. Thanks for visiting our group. |

Mary Ann, I like the colors of the scene you captured. Plus, I enjoy the variations of the circles formed by the two lemons and the tops of the bowls. Your soft lighting works well. I agree with Michael and LuAnn that the lemon could be freshly cut, misted with water, or even rubbed with a fingertip of cooking oil. Your thought of taking the Still Life class is a great one. |

Kieu-Hanh, I think you made a wise choice to convert your image to b&w. Your image has such a classic look and you've captured a feeling of depth. Your removal of the branches and straightening of the column are helpful. I agree with Mary Ann, that you could add more contrast and darken the blacks to make the view more dramatic. In my version, I added contrast and darkened the blacks, even on the lines of the tile and wall. Plus, I removed the light socket on the ceiling to simplify the scene. What do you think, Kieu-Hanh?
My husband and I just booked flight for a summer trip to Washington D.C. with our 11 year-old granddaughter. We are excited to visit our nation's capital with her. We'd appreciate a few suggestions you have for sites to visit or photograph. Thanks! |

Ruth, thanks for your comments and suggestions. I agree that the mid ground benefits from some brightening. I actually did the same thing before I submitted the photo to our camera club's competition. Glad you took a break from housework to give me your ideas. |

Thanks for your comments. Not using a tripod let me walk down the fence line to get shots from different angles. The fence posts supplied helpful steadiness. |

Ruth, I'm impressed that you thought to flip the bird, because in my opinion
the composition improves as well as making the "legs" more apparent. I like how you've enhanced the eye and made the feathers sharper. The huge cricket in the bird's beak is impressive. Sometimes those last minute captures are the best. |

Michael, I like your use of long exposure and ICM. I can tell what the scene is, but the view has an impressionistic quality that is pleasing. It's especially helpful that the man on the right is clear enough to show his posture. I agree with Ruth that he seems to turn is back on the artwork. Thanks for sharing an idea for trying new techniques. |

LuAnn, you've created an abstract that is very different than the original photo, which to me shows a lot of creativity. I especially like the "worn-off", white border that you used. I prefer that the crop around the white border be tighter, since to me the inside of the border is the focus. Enjoy experimenting with your new camera! |
