LuAnn, thank you for your comments about taking portraits. You include some helpful suggestions. My husband was using a large circular reflector that certainly helped in many instances too. With small children, I've learned I need to move quickly and keep things moving. Owen loved to climb the big trees, so I adjusted on the spot for the best lighting. I will have to check my camera to see if I have highlight control. |

Joan, thank you so much for joining us and giving me your comments. You remember the 5 year-old spirit well. I will have to remember next time to take the majority of Owen's pictures in the first 15 minutes. |

Mary Ann, thank you for your comments. His parents will certainly get a copy of this image and others that I took that day. Once a year, I take birthday photos of my three grandchildren. Select images then are printed for their walls and as gifts to the relatives (including me and my husband). |

Christine, I too applaud you for getting up early to capture a sunrise shot. The still water of the canal gives a wonderful reflection of the buildings. Although I've visited Milan, I didn't realize that the Navigili area has canals. I'm struck that although the canals are centuries old, the advertising and vehicles are modern. I agree with Joan that the sign could be darkened and/or desaturated to make it less noticeable. |

Mary Ann, bravo for going to a photography meet up and trying something new. Even with the whirling, circular lines, I can identify that you are looking at a landscape. The swirling lines add a feeling of movement to make the scene more abstract. It sounds like you rotated your camera a quarter way around to get this effect. Is this correct? I've experimented with camera movement too. I've usually zoomed in or out with a slow shutter setting. So your image has the lines going around instead of leading inward. Interesting to compare the difference. |

Kieh-Hanh, I like how the buildings of the city show through the openings in the bridge. The placement of the walkers in the center, leads my eyes right to the bridge. All the leading lines are utilized well, giving the image a feeling of movement. |

Michael, I like the unique shapes of the plants and how you've put them together as a triptych. The inverted colors is new to me and adds interest to the image. I find your handling of the stems especially interesting, since they're subtly included. Your image would make a dynamite print. |

LuAnn, I like the intimate feeling that your macro shot of the sunflower gives me. The sepia tones work well to focus my eye on the details and textures, instead of just colors. The matting choices you plan to use for the prints sounds lovely. Right now your image is subtle. I wonder if a touch more contrast might be beneficial without losing the soft and subtle feel. |
