Thank you, Kieu-Hanh. The monthly theme for our photo competition was holiday lights. I received an Award of Merit with this revised version with the smaller moon. |

I'm a sucker for fog pictures. Your image gives me a feeling of peace, but I can also feel the chill in the air. I especially like the texture in the stone wall. |

Your photo brings a smile to my face. The bright orange signs provide a clear center of interest. I would typically think of using a vignette, but in this case the white of the sky and snow works to focus on the signs. |

Mary Ann, the gently curving trail leads my eye into your image. The simplicity of the scene and the horizontal lines of the landscape provide a calming feeling. As far as the black and white version, I suggest more contrast. You could perhaps crop the sky so the horizon isn't so much in the center. I've included a sample so you can picture what a bit of dodging and burning would do. I can see why this lovely preserve is so special to you. |

Randolph, I like your image even better with the ceiling fan cropped out. It makes the scene more intimate. The glow of the fire gives the room a warm, welcoming feel. However, I too laugh at your 54 degree chill. In Colorado, we shiver with much colder temperatures in December. The Christmas spirit radiates from your image. Hope you enjoyed the holidays! |

Michael, I can understand why you backed up to take a shot of this vintage truck. The rusted body and bushes in the front take me back to an earlier era. Cropping out the sky on the original helps keep my eye on the truck. A vignette like LuAnn shows also draws my eye to the vehicle. How fun to spend the day exploring on Lopez Island! I have fond memories of visiting there years ago and biking around the island. |

LuAnn, I like the colors and textures in your image of the old car. The orange of the rusted fenders contrasts with the turquoise of the gas pump. To me, the brightened flowers add to the upbeat feeling of the scene. Toning down the brightness of the sky helps keep my focus on the car. |

Mary Ann, thank you for your comments. The "zooming" of the lights gives them diagonal lines, that I agree bring your eye into the scene. That's a great idea to send the shopping area a copy of the image. |

Thank you, Michael, for your comments. I'll have to play more with the moon image to see if an altered moon looks better. When I first looked at the original scene, I thought the moon would balance out the composition. Do you think the smaller moon like I showed Kieu-Hanh helps? |

Kieu-Hanh, I appreciate your comments. My husband agreed with your thought that the moon was too big. So the version that I've attached is what I submitted to our photo club's competition. The moon is still in color with a blue-purple tone. I didn't think the yellow cast looked right with the blue and purple lights. |
