This is a red wine bottle on a black background and to prevent the bottle from blending into the background you have to light the edges to give it some shape. There are three types of lighting you can do to get this rim-like light of the shape of the bottle. The first is what you see here--a graded light fall-off camera Left and a sharp light camera right. The other two methods involve a graded fall-off on both sides and a sharp fall-off on both sides. The style you like determines the light placement. The labels are lit separately and blended together in Photoshop. My first encounter with a shiraz was about 20 years ago on a freezing Boston night. I asked the bartender for a wine I had never tasted and he poured me the shiraz. After finishing the wine, I nearly choked on the bill-$22 for 1 glass of wine. I thought that this must be a VERY expensive wine. When I came back home to Texas, I was doing some shopping in the local grocery store and found this same bottle of shiraz for $4.25 for a BOTTLE. I have never ordered wine at a restaurant since. The good news is that at that time I was in a local wine club and the stipulation was that you could only bring wine that was less than $5/bottle and so the shiraz fit the bill. The best description of the taste of shiraz is that it is very much like a cab but without the bite. Leave it up to the Aussies to find something better than a cab. |

Hi, Xiao,
I agree with the above comments and do not think this exceptional image can be improved. I would like to see some of your current work as I suspect it is better than your images from 8 years ago. GOOD JOB!!! |

Hi, Tom, I agree with Greg on opening up the shadows a bit. The trees on the camera right side of the image are completely black. See attached. NICE JOB!!! |

Hi, Greg. Boy, this is a REALLY GOOD capture!!! These venues are INSANE!!! The lighting comes from multiple sources each with its own color temperature and so white balance, unless you use a color checker, is ALWAYS problematic. I have no suggestion on improving this image taken under VERY adverse conditions. NICE JOB!!! |

Hey, Darcy, I REALLY like this image. I like the composition with the flower placed in the 3rd power point. I like the use of selective focus so we can easily determine the center of interest. This nice image might be enhanced by decreasing some of the white areas in the background as it tends to draw my eye away from the center of interest. You might also SLIGHTLY increase the clarity slider so as to increase the sharpness of the pistils and stamen of the flower. See attached. NICE JOB!!! |

Hi, Quang. I agree with all of the above comments and congratulate you on a well done image from a composition, sharpness and interest standpoint. This already excellent image MIGHT be enhanced by adding some contrast, especially in the sky as it seems a bit dull. See attached. The effects are subtle, but I think it enhances the image. |
