Ed: In my opinion, ALL images... are subjective. Some individuals focus their photography on landscapes, some portraits, some nature, etc. I do not consider myself an expert but rather a student of still life. Therefore, I would recommend your checking the web for artists like Sarah Lamb or others for inspiration. Composition, scale of objects and their relationship to each other PLUS the lighting and background are important... getting the light and shadows right is important as well. Another source to consider is Harold Ross check out his web site for inspiration and good luck... I look forward to your still life images. |

Hi Peter thanks for your opinion ... but Harold Ross critiqued this image for me prior to my posting it... and, since he is what I consider to be both the master of still life and light, I consider his assessment of this image with higher value... he found NOTHING wrong with the image and thought it was beautifully composed and technically well done. Since I am a student of Harold Ross, I always look to him for guidance and counsel BEFORE my images are shared with anyone - especially on this platform. |

Hi Peter: Just another super landscape but this one has a bonus of the aurora! Very nice! What many do not realize is that the aurora does not stand still and pose for us.. it is always in motion which really makes me appreciate your image with the 10 sec exposure even more. Being lucky with a clear sky also is a bonus to show all the stars nicely. |

Hi Michael: I like your capture of the clouds very much. To my eye, the inclusion of the roof, however, is a distraction. Perhaps a vertical crop might be something to consider as well as cloning out the power pole and the other roof top. |

Hi Ian: I like your image very much. You did a great job of capturing a candid moment outside of a studio setting. Your subject is in focus while the background is soft which encourages the viewer to look at the musician. I'm thinking out loud and wondering if a slight vignette might help focus even more on your subject and decrease some of the light areas on the top? Just a thought. |

Hi Ed; When I saw your image, the first thing I was curious about was your shutter speed. It is not in the description, however, I like your concept of soothing water and can almost hear the sounds. To my eye, your shutter speed appears a bit too slow which made the water not in the water fall without much definition. |

Hi John: Very nice abstract image with great leading lines, textures and reflections. Beautifully exposed and processed.. a very different perspective than the usual straight on view which, to my eye, makes it much more interesting. |
