Ed - I prefer to get as much detail as possible from the original capture before adjusting the contrast. Hence my first adjustment layer is Detail Extractor in which I set the contrast to 25%, followed by Pro Contrast to fine tune the image.
My logic is - extract as much detail from the image as possible and then apply contrast to the enhanced image. |

Ella - I amire your ability to create some stunning still life images and your control of the lighting is beyond reproach.
This particular image does not strike the mark for me - I find the cut off of the horse on the left disturbing and being in line with the books seems to unbalance the image.
You can't win them all - I look forward to your next image! |

Susan - regrettably my initial reaction was that there is nothing sharp in the image and certainly no apparent diffusion from fog. Compositionally OK although it could be argued that the house is a little central. So sorry that it did not work out for you. |

Ed - a fine action image well caught. Overall a little monotonal as has been suggested. Nick's version ia a great improvement although I would not flip it. The rider moving into the image from the left is the way we read images in the West. |

Nick - an iconic image which I am familiar with although I never made it to the Faroes. To my eye a rather sombre and dark image, but I guess that is a reflection on the lighting at the time of capture. |

Ian - very little can beat the impact of the eyes of an owl as evidenced by your image. A great shame that the softness of the beak detracts from the overall impact of the image.
I concur with the comments of others re. a smaller aperture and focussing on the beak. |

John - a well executed image from a difficult viewpoint. The composition works well with the foreground groynes leading the eye to the near lighthouse and then on to the second lighthouse. I agree with the suggestions of others re. detail and contrast and I would consider a 16x9 crop to eliminate the upper part of the sky.
Mission accomplished! |

Susan - I use Detail Extractor at the default setting of 25% and increase the Contrast slider to 20% to eliminate the slight HDR effect generated. Occasionally I will add a second Detail Extractor layer at reduced opacity to further improve the image.
A Pro Contrast layer always follows the Detail Extractor layer for fine tuning then I move onto Curves. |
