31 Feb 22 Comment Ella - I am with you re. your hip surgery as I have one bolted up and one replacement hip, both resulting from falls in the pursuit of images. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
Another highly competent still life, well lit, etc. and the background is particularly attractive. I would query the inclusion of the object behind the apple and the pear.

31 Feb 22 Comment Paul - a great candid of these 3 boys - I like the way in which the two outer boys are both looking inwards to the central boy. The background is very sympathetic especially with the peeling plaster top and texture. The crop as presented is fine for my eyes. Feb 14th
31 Feb 22 Comment Ed - the graphic effect that you have applied to your image of a very well known subject is quite effective. I agree with Paul's suggestion re cropping, but am unsure on Ella's edit which I find to be a little too light. My interpretation with the addition of a couple of Curves layers and a contrast layer below .... Feb 14th
31 Feb 22 Comment Nick - I am in two minds with your image. The atmosphere generated by the fog combined with the reflections in the water and the detail in the foreground rocks work well, but I find the branches on the left side very distracting. Feb 14th
31 Feb 22 Comment Ian - superb lighting conditions giving an image full of drama! The letterbox format is spot on and I feel that any additional contrast in the sky would reduce the overall impact of the image.
Persistence pays off!

31 Feb 22 Comment John - to my eyes this is a minimalist landscape with plenty of interest - the sky is very strong and may be a candidate for insertion into another image! I like the crispness of the grasses which to my mind occupy a 'comfortable' proportion of the frame and I would not suggest a crop in this area.
My main criticism is the lack of a definitive focal point - my eyes keep switching from the sky to the grasses.

31 Feb 22 Reply As noted in the image description the temp was -22 deg F - no special measures to protect the camera apart from trying not to breath on the rear screen which would then freeze over!
The track on the LHS is from some animal - it is not permitted to walk off the road onto thermal areas.

31 Feb 22 Reply Nick - thank you for your critique of my image which is both anticipated and appreciated. If the same file was given to a number of photographers they would all interpret it differently and end up with subtlety different images. To my mind enhancing the blacks where you suggested would destroy the atmosphere of the image - as the background on the right is mist the depth of the image is naturally reduced. The sky was equally diffused by the rising mist and any increase in detail in this area would be inappropriate IMHO. It may surprise you to learn that I rarely make any adjustments in RAW and prefer to use DxO Nik CEP 4 Detail Extractor which is far more sophisticated than Clarity in RAW. Feb 4th
