Nick - I opened your jpeg in Camera Raw and adjusting Clarity to max has a similar effect although the relief in the trees is less than using Nik - BTW all the Nik presets are adjustable from the default settings.
Detail can also be extracted from the lower clouds on a Curves layer - a mask would be needed to apply the adjustment only to the lower clouds.
The contrast adjustment layer in PS is less effective even when set to -50

Ella - an outstanding wildlife image, well processed as usual and looking completely natural I like both versions - mono and colour and Nick's tweak certainly strengthens the image. Nicely done! |

Paul - a stunning image of these magnificent creatures enhanced by the apparent eye contact with the photographer. I agree with Nick that a slight darkening of the background would be beneficial but I would take a more simplistic approach to this task - an overall Curves adjustment with the cheetahs masked out, fine tuned via the mask opacity. |

ED - as you may recall still life is not my forte, but your image rests comfortably on my eyes and I would not change anything except perhaps to crop a little off the bottom. |

Nick - a warm welcome to our group - good to have a fresh pair of eyes to view our work:)
A dramatic landscape as has already been noted and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the processing.
It is commonplace in this group for some of us to process occasional presented images further to evaluate possible improvements. Looking at your image I felt that there was more detail to be had in the low lying clouds and that the trees were a little dark. I applied one of my favourite plugins - Nik CEP4 Detail Extractor with default settings and to my eyes at least it improves the image. The sky could probably be masked off slightly, but more detail is revealed in the low lying clouds and the trees. Further fine tuning in Detail Extractor no doubt beneficial. |

Ian - quite a sombre image, but one which has great atmosphere enhanced by the long shutter speed. I have no issues with the vignette which helps to concentrate the eye on the main subject which is in low light nor with the brightness of the water in the foreground.
Close examination reveals minor halos around the lighthouse:( |

John - A dramatic image aided by the strength of the sky - well worth your second visit! I like the symmetry of the trees in the frame. I see no obvious noise in the image at the size presented, but as a BTW in the processing of all my images a Topaz Denoise AI layer is applied - Nik Define is rather ineffective for noise reduction IMHO. |
