Your comment re 'Best of Friends' prompted me to look through my collection of that publication - all 12 - a journey down memory lane!
That image was taken on my second visit to Bodie in 2000. It is an infrared film image and I remember the difficulty of controlling detail in the white grass when wet printing. It was printed with diffusion on a warm tone paper. I found a copy in my old web site images - attached for the interest of other members. |

Paul - impressive quality and detail from the Sony combination. My only gripe is the sharpening halos. |

Ed - technically a very good image with the lighting handled well as is the addition of the textured background, but I find that the subject is not particularly interesting. That said I have little or no experience in still life! |

Michael - another impressive cloudscape with just enough tonal separation between the clouds and the trees. The texture in the water has been nicely retained. The slight sepia toning masks the otherwise harshness of a contrasty IR. I might have considered cropping off about half of the plain black sky at the top.
BTW - It has always been my understanding that an image should be sharpened at it's final size rather than prior to resizing and/or change in dpi. |

Ian - I am old enough to remember scooters decked with a ridiculous no. of lights! I always wondered, and still do, how the scooter's electrics managed to illuminate them all - a situation I rather doubt. BTW i don't see any mirrors - they all look like lights to me.
Well seen, beautifully processed record shot.

John - an excellent image which I like very much - a strong composition with good foreground. Side lighting on the lighthouse plus it's reflection in the still sea are all bonus points.
I find that the image is a little flat and a little more contrast and detail in the sky would improve it, IMO. I applied Nik CEP 4 Detail Extractor and Pro Contrast layers which add a little punch and also reveal the rain falling in the distance and a Curves layer to darken overall.

I have been fortunate to visit Bodie on at least 3 occasions and it has provided me with many successful images. I appreciate you dropping by to our group and posting your personal image of the old Plymouth - memories are an important aspect of our photography especially with the back story of yours. |
