I have confirmed that the identification of the location is correct although the lake is actually SW of Reykjavik, not East and the aurora was shot looking in a generally southerly direction.

Stephen - thanks for your kind comment - appreciated.
I am no astronomer and know very little about the stars, but it would be interesting if someone could confirm if it is a planet.
The image was captured on 21 Feb 2015 at 00.54.15 hrs local time in Iceland at Kleifarvatn Lake, a few miles east of Reykjavik.
A crop from the image (below) shows a constellation (?) in the top right corner which I am sure that anyone with some knowledge of astronomy could identify. |

The colour version is also very effective - shame that the colours of the graffiti are not more vibrant, but nevertheless a very pleasing image. In this version I don't have an issue with the grass top left - tends to hold the image in. |

I really don't know what the light source is - I had always assumed that it was the white dot, which is clearly not a star, above the mountain top - an aircraft landing light?? |

Paul - another great portrait! The face says it all.I do find the light area to the immediate left of his head to be a little distracting. |

Ed - I have to agree with Michael - the image is unbalanced by the mass of the building on the right. |

Michael - a lot going on in this image - it's rather busy, but the positioning of the tree in the centre works well. Overall a limited tonal range - maybe a touch more contrast?
I would consider reducing the brightness of the white cloud at the top of the image or cloning it out - it does tend to draw the eye. |

Ian - quite a dynamic image, well captured with the skateboarder in an optimum position. Great detail in the blacks - shame that part of the face is hidden, but you can't have it all! Michael's cloning does remove a couple of distractions.
With all the graffiti I bet the image looks great in colour too. |

John - a competent image, but one that does not excite me a great deal.. The tree is a super shape and captured at the right time of year, i.e. no leaves so the structure can be clearly seen and good detail in the sky.
I feel that it may work better in colour and would like to see that too following Michael's comment above. |

Ella - certainly brings back memories for me - was once in Death Valley at 130 deg F! I love the rippled dunes especially with the low light emphasizing their shape and texture and here the ripples lead the eye to the wonderful shapes and further ripples in the distant dunes. Great lighting to bring out the shape and form of those dunes. The dark sky (or shadow) at the top serves to hold the eye in the image. Well processed as usual and I would consider a further crop to 16x9, losing a little at the bottom. IMHO this would strengthen an already strong image. |
