Thanks John, but it was not this image which won the Silver medal - it was an image from Bryce as noted above and shown below ... |

Ed - your image certainly has a strong leading line, but it does not lead the eye to a point of interest - IMO the trees are not strong enough to be a focal point which is basically what the image lacks.I would imagine a vehicle/person on the road in the far distance to add a focal point and boost interest.
I feel that the sky has not been processed sympathetically and wonder if a 16x9 crop would improve the image by reducing the amount of sky.
I attempted to make a few adjustments to the image, but there is something strange going on - there is a blue line vertically down the LHS and applying a curve shows no histogram in the dialogue and NIK is not available - very weird. Solved the last 2 issues by converting the image profile to sRGB (which it should be) from Dot Gain 20% and now the application of Nik CEP 4 Detail Extractor improves the sky, but the blue line remains .... |

Ella - super shot of this amazing building with great lighting and reflections/texture in the water. Nicely framed, etc. - good job as usual! |

Paul - another fine candid image which brings out some of the character of the Arab man. I find the image a little flat and suspect that a marginal increase in contrast would be beneficial. For my eyes the crop is a little tight and a little more space on the LHS between his hat and the edge of the frame would be beneficial IMO. |

Rashid - this image appeals to me a lot too - there is so much to see. I love looking through the repeating architectural shapes to the people beyond and the delicacy of the tonal range. The detail and textures in the reflections are superb and the lady and buggy in the foreground very important in terms of foreground interest. It is a little unfortunate that the dark edge of the pool cuts through the neck of the young girl walking by - unfortunately there appears to be no detail in the head which could be brought out to give some separation.Great image! |

John - I am always keen to milk a situation which has the potential of producing several images - this one very different from the last from the same location and captures a moment in time. Although it is very busy there is a good balance between the people and the diagonal bridge supports lead the eye across the image. The fact that the lady on the right is looking skywards adds to the scene. |

Ian - a very competent portrait as usual, super expression and the character of the lady comes through nicely. I think Paul's crop strengthens the image and removes the light coloured bangle which I find a little distracting. In fact I might crop a little bit more to remove the light area lower left (just below the shoulder) or alternatively darken it down. I also wonder if the left hand side of her face is marginally over bright. |
