31 Mar 19 Reply No, Ed - I live in the UK, but have visited Iceland on 9 occasions in the past 5 years both in summer and winter. I love the place and prefer the winter. Mar 18th
31 Mar 19 Reply Not that cold - above freezing, just! Another trip when the temp in Snaefellsnes was minus 16 deg C plus wind chill and in the South much warmer - the following day was washed out by torrential rain and gale force ++ winds which did the snow at the Vestrahorn no favours. Mar 13th
31 Mar 19 Comment Ed - I'm in two minds with this image - I see where you are coming from in terms of your interpretation of the story behind the image, but find that it is not very strong pictorially. This could be due to the tightish crop and possibly landscape format would be more suitable and emphasize the loneliness of the slide in the landscape. Mar 13th
31 Mar 19 Comment Rashid - an interesting mix of shapes, textures and lighting in which the white shape is key. At first sight it is not clear in which direction the camera was pointed and whether or not it was rotated. Referencing the chequer plate I surmise that you were looking down. The very fact that my mind was drawn in to evaluate the taking angle is maybe a sign of the success of the image? Mar 13th
31 Mar 19 Comment Ella - great lighting and pose with all feather details well captured. The diffused background with just a hint of detail is the perfect foil to this image.I wonder if you could extract a little more detail from the left foot without losing realism. Mar 13th
31 Mar 19 Comment Paul - a very pleasing image which works in mono. The lighting on the forward jackal is great and the limited DOF adds depth to the image. The fact that both jackals are looking straight at the camera is a bonus.

If this is to be considered a pictorial image I would clone out the grass over the face of the second jackal along with the grass over the ear. Clearly such action is not permitted for a nature image (for exhibition).

31 Mar 19 Comment Jotn - there are many aspects of this image which I find very attractive - the composition, the soft lighting and the shadow area at the base of the image. However I feel that the image lacks a focal point although there is an air of mystery as to what lies beyond the curve in the path. A figure on the RH third would strengthen the image IMO. Mar 13th
31 Mar 19 Comment Ian - a very strong portrait executed to near perfection! Great quality, lighting and pose. A somewhat macabre feeling which is most attractive - the dark rimmed eyes add to that feeling, but maybe his right eye could be lightened a very slightly although that is very subjective. Equally well the shadow(?) under his chin has a hint of detail which could perhaps be further extracted? The subtle detail in his clothing is spot on. Great piece of work - an exhibition candidate without a doubt! Mar 13th
