Thanks Paul - the softness and colour of the predawn light adds another dimension to the image - it is far gentler and has more atmosphere than the mono version, but both are equally pleasing! |

Ella - Many congratulations on the award of APSA - your involvement in PSA is obviously greater than I was aware of and it is appropriate that they chose to honour you thus.

Ella - I do enjoy images of old weathered timber buildings and this is no exception. It reminds me very much of the Moulton Ranch Barn in the Grand Tetons which I am sure you are familiar with - the shape is almost identical.
I love the contrasting textures in the background and the weathered timber - the reflection is a great bonus and the o'all quality first class.
My only gripe is that the crop is rather tight and a little more space on both sides could be beneficial as would be the inclusion of the apex of the roof of the RH building.Nevertheless very well done!

Paul - the mountains in Patagonia are most impressive and you have captured their majesty in this image. The balance of the peaks works well with the two 'spires' centre stage. The lack of detail in the sky is a bonus and sufficient detail has been revealed in the foreground hills.
I would love to see the colour version! |

Ed - I like the contrasting shapes and patterns of the silo (?) and the stairs and the sense of mystery as to what is round the corner and out of sight. The soft lighting helps to accentuate the textures and shapes and there is no hint of burn out in the highlight areas.
A simple straight forward, but effective image. |

Rashid - I guess that most landscape photographers have photographed hay bales a some time in their career - and I am no exception! Compositionally it works well with the main bale strongly positioned in the frame and the other bales leading the eye round the image under a fairly strong sky.
I find the image to be very flat with a limited tonal range and feel that it is crying out for a boost in contrast. |

John - the contrast in shape and texture between the gnarled tree and the modern ordered/patterned background works well and was well seen. The positioning of the tree to the RHS of the image also works well and there is a good tonal range throughout. |

Ian - another very strong, dramatic portrait with a slight sense of menage. Processed to near perfection in which the separation between the background and the hooded clothing has been extremely well maintained.
My only thought to improve it would be to lighten the eyes marginally, but I guess they are fine as they are and add to the sense of menace. |
